Question about 2003 GMC Sierra

1 Answer

Hello, I have a 2003 GMC Sierra the cd player doesn't work the radio and tape player do. I took it to an car audio place. This is what they told me> It would be over $400 to put in a new system becasue every thing ie, steering control for radio and door chimes are all attached and I would need all new wiring to be compatible with a new cd/radio player. He suggested they send out my old one to be repaired. I got a call today saying the repair alone would be $250. That seems very high to me. What would be a average price for repairing a cd player? I would appreciate your advice. This just feels wrong to me Thank you Barbara

Well they r probably right. I put an aftermarket stereo in my 03 and the harness alone was over $100. There is one thing u can try......key off, remove the radio fuse under the hood and turn the key on for 30 seconds.....then turn key off and reinstall the fuse.....then try ur cd player.....this works some of the time....if it continues, u will have to replace it or just get an ipod

Problem with driver door on a 2004 gmc envoy xuv

I just recently had a problem with no power going to the panel on drivers door . I went to dealership and at first they told me it could be a loosewire , bad connection among other things . I just had to replace my radio/cd player with a refurbished one that was 800.00 and I thought it might have to do with that but when I took it back they told me that they reset something and it has been working ever since

i cannot understand how you radio would work. These radios are coded throught data link to computer. the only way to get the stereo to work is to run a calibration program through the vehicle. then it should accept your new cd player. if the stereo's are the same then may I suggest you to take the radios appart and switch the parts that don't work like CD drive assembly and faceplate.but use your factory installed stereo as the main core, this should fix your isses and work fine since the calibration is for the origional factory stereo.

Wire harness to switch from stock stereo to cd player will not fit the wires that are supposed to? so what wires are the speaker wires

Not sure I understand your question. Did you buy a harness adapter for GMC, or are you trying to just cut the connector off the factory radio and solder it to your CD player? If the latter, below is the color code for your factory wiring.

you might have to take it to the dealership to have the radio reprogramed. it should only cost 40 bucks. these radios are very tempermental and have a mind of their own sometimes. My profesional recomendation would be to have an aftermarket cd player in. they are much nicer and have way better quality than the factory radio's
