SOURCE: Crankshaft posistion sensor or ignition control module?

1) do you have a Check Engine Light On while running? If so find out what the code is
2) these engines are known for their CPS going bad...it can be tested on the car with a volt meter and turning the engine, but it isnt easy....I would have to err in the direction of changing the Crank Position Sensor.

Crankshaft position sensor location

The sensor is located at the bottom of the engine behind the harmonic balancer. To the right side of the motor. You have to remove the pulley to replace the sensor.

What makes the car die after running for so long

Loss of spark is the common reason on this year of buick, that means you either have a defective Crankshaft position sensor or a defective Ignition control module, either one can cause the symptom. Of the two parts the crankshaft position sensor is the most common failure point, to replace it you must remove the front crank pulley and the harmonic balancer behind that pulley, the crank sensor is behind that and is triggered off the harmonic balancer. You access the pulley through the passenger wheel well, you must remove the plastic or rubber splash guards to access it, you will need some special tools, a harminic balancer pulley puller of course will be required. There is also a special tool needed to set the air gap from the sensor to the pulley, so to get around that tool measure the old sensors air gap with a feeler gauge and set the new one the same.

My car got FS engine. it cranks but no spark on plugs.replaced another distributor still got same problem.supply is on connector.

    TESTING
    1. Disconnect the crankshaft position sensor wire harness plug.
    2. Connect an ohmmeter to the sensor terminals A and B and measure the resistance. Fig. 1: Crankshaft position sensor connector terminals. Measure the resistance across the A and B terminals 89544g27.gif
Fig. 2: Measure the air gap between the crankshaft position sensor and the crankshaft pulley 89544g28.gif

    3. The reading should be 520–580 ohms at 68°F (20°C).
    4. If not as specified, replace the sensor.
    5. Measure the air gap of the sensor between the crankshaft pulley and the sensor.
    6. Proper air gap should be 0.040–0.080 in. (1–2 mm).
    7. If not as specified, inspect the crankshaft pulley and/or replace the sensor.

Does a 2002 buick regal have a ignition position sensor

    Hello trhino69.

The Regal has two position sensors.
One on the crankshaft and another on the camshaft.
If the crankshaft sensor isn't reading it will not start.
On the other hand if the camshaft sensor isn't reading it will start but the fuel injectors will revert to non-sequential firing.
The crankshaft sensor is mounted at the crankshaft harmonic balancer.
It is #4 in the diagram below.

1993 Buick Regal Custom 3.1L starts, runs about 5 minutes and then stalls. I think it is the MAF sensor, but I can't find the MAF sensor, and my Chilton doesn't list it for this model/year/engine...

it is the large round piece located in the round plastic flex tube that connects to your air filter and the other end to the throttle body, you can do a tap test on this piece, start your car,and tap on the flat part of the MAF sensor,if your car stalls right out it bad,use a screw driver handle to tap with.
