Does this engine have a carburetor or fuel injection ( multi-port or throttle body)?

If it has multi-port injection, the fuel pressure at the test port on the fuel rail above the injectors should be about 35 to 40 PSI. If it is a throttle body type, the pressure at the throttle body should be about 15 PSI. If the ignition is a self-contained distributor, then a possible fault in the injector system is a bad crankshaft or camshaft sensor. Either one can stop the computer from firing the injector(s). If you have the check engine light on, rent a scanner, read the code(s), and pursue to repair(s).

If you've gotta dump more gas in it than it should be getting, it may have a large vacuum leak

My 2004 trailblazer doesn't want to crank only after I put gas in it. I thought it may be the fuel pump, but now it trys to stay running after I switch it off. What in the world c an this be?

Could be a bad fuel pressure regulator. Doesn't start because you lost fuel pressure. Stays running because the regulator is still dumping fuel directly in the intake plenum because of pressure. It is in front on the drivers side. Pull the vacuum hose, if it is wet and/or smells of gas. Replace it.

1990 GMC TopKick Dump Truck Shutdown Issue

Electrical problem. Something gets hot and stops working. Could be fuel pump or something in the ignition system, so losing spark. After it stalls, spray starting fluid in the intake and try to start. If it fires up and runs a few seconds, you know it's a gas problem. If starting fluid doesn't do anything, check for spark, it's probably an ignition failure-possibly the coil or the ignition control module. The module can be tested at a parts store.

92 4Runner 3.0 V6, cranks and runs for 1/2 a second only. Engine has spark, compression, and fuel(45 psi). No injector pulse. It will only stay running if you spray ether or gas into the intake.

have you replaced the fuel filter? Where did you test the fuel pressure at (was it after the filter or before?)
Also - I'm just curious -- how old is the fuel?

Runs poorly(very Rich, stumbles) when map sensor is plugged in, but runs smoother with it map sensor, EGR, TPS, O2, Fuel Pump, timing is right, good vacuum at map, no vacuum leaks,

If it is fuel injected you may have a bad fuel pressure regulator. The regulator is attached to intake manifold with a vacuum hose and the bladder sometimes fails causing gas to be dumped directly into the intake manifold. Only solution is to replace the fuel pressure regulator.
