My 1985 chev blazer will not engage the front drive axel. I had the transmission replaced and i now have unconnected vaccume lines around transfer case/transmission area. Is there a valve or something...

if the light for 4wd does not come on it could be that a vacume line has cracked or become seperated from the ball under your battery listen under hood for a hiss, my hisses usually come from somewhere around the heater box where the lines join together on the way to the ball or the vacume ball may be bad the front wheels will not enguage without vacume applied as vacume pulls the locks in. The xfer case is working if it turns the short driveshaft

1988 Sedan DeVille A/C works but all air goes to floor and defrost/windshield. No air though dash vents? Seems there must be an actuator or relay not working?? Don't know what I'm looking at exactly under...

On drivers side check actuator that goes to the parking park, it should have vacum, if it dose it's going be an actuator for the vent door's, if it dont have vacum then go under the hood and look for a vacum hose that goes into the fire wall make sure it has vacum, if the vacum hose goes into a resevor by pass it some time's it get clog, also if you have vacum under the dash with parking brake on, it should release when put into drive. more then likely that will also work once you fix your vacum problem.

4wheel drive will not engage

There are three main things that could cause this. #1: in the passenger side kick panel is a module that controls the 4x4 and it should be clicking as you try to put it in 4x4.#2:There is a vacume activator switch on the transfer case located on the top on the drivers side.(If the module is clicking and trying to put it in 4x4 then I would just go to this activator switch).#3 If you replace the switch and it still dosn't go in to 4x4 there is a vacum diaphram under the battery tray that pulls the front end into 4x4.Check and make sure that there is vacum getting to the diaphram which is controled by the activator on the transfer case.If no vacume at the activator or diaphram check all the vacume hoses going into and out of the activator. If no vacume while vehicle is running suspect bad vacume line. You will need to remove the battery to test the diaphram under the battery tray. You will need to hook up some kind of battery to the cables with the battery out of the car to get it started in order to check for vacume at the diaphram.

Our Chevy S-10 ZR2 won't go into 4 wheel drive

under battery is a vacum operated actuator that pulls your 4 wheel drive in to front axle.Make sure it has vacum going to it .Sometimes the actuator will get a hole in the rubber housing and 4 wheel will not engage. You could also check your vacum lines going to a canister on drivers side fender as sometimes the will come un-pluged and your actuator under battery will get novacum to it.If not it could be your actuator motor which is on the transfer case and is electric controlled and expencive300-400 dollars. Also could be a vacum line

Front drive, 4 Wheel drive won't engage

that vacume line goes back to the transfer case, the end that goes behind the motor hooks to a steel tube so it does not get hot from the exhaust., my guess it should be hooked up so it will feed vacume to the vacume ball so it can lock in the axels. if you start the car and shift into 4 wheel drive and listen under hood you should hear a hissing sound, that is vacume, if you can't hear it there, you may have to craw under the right side to hear it, probably came unhooked underneith the car

Front hubs won't engage

If you have a vacuum pump (bicycle pump wil work) , hook up to the very rear of the acuator, give it some vacuum and listen for it operating. If it doesnt then the actuator may be bad.
If it does make nooise and move, a check for leaks in your vacuum system is in order. Just follow the pipes around and inspect them (engine running) and listen for leaks.
Hope this helps...

Clicking noise from font driver side wheel 4 wheel drive

There is a vacum powered actuator on the front differential housing on the passenger side. It pushes one way for 2WD and the other way for 4WD. If it gets an erratic vacum signal it can cause the clicking as it goes between 2WD and 4WD. It gets it's vacum from two valves mounted on the firewall just behind the battery(to left). The white line feeds manifold vacum to the valves. Check for vacum at white line with engine running. If no vacum there is a break in line from manifold (not likely in this case). If vacum check the pink and blue lines by applying vacum to each one. The vacum should hold. If not check lines from valves to vacum actuator. If both lines hold vacum check valves. Remove electrical connectors from both valves. Connect a wire from one of the terminals of the valve to ground. Touch a wire from the battery + to the other terminal of the valve. Listen for a clicking sound. If no sound valve is bad. Replace valves(s). Also have someone watch position of actuator shaft as you move the selector between 2WD and 4WD. There should be movement. If there is an intermittent problem sometimes it will and other times it won't.

under the battey compartment is a lever that runs on vacume unhook the cable from the vacume plungger u will first have to take the battery and battery compartment out once u get the cable unhooked have someone start ur truck and then pull the cable under the battery box that goes to the 4x4 unit dont pull too hard u may pass up the sweet spot that locks in to 4x4 they may have to go to reverse to drive a couple of time while u r pullin on the cable itr will click forward bout a half inch when it locks in if ur 4x4 works after this u will need to replace the vacume plunger or do like i did and pull it till it locks in and tie it off to sumthin n go wheelin.... lol

If this doesn't lead you to the trouble it's probably a mechanical problem inside the differential. However most likely there would other noises.
