Question about 1987 Ford Ranger

1 Answer

87 ranger bogging problem while stepping on the gas+tranny issue

Usually does it in either 2 or 3rd gear not sure if that makes a difference, shakes my truck pretty bad, and doesnt accelerate. It does it on occasion, other times it drives normally

Rarely makes a grinding spinning noise while letting off the clutch in first and second and also reverse. I have to take it out of gear for it to stop

Either a tune-up issue and or a clogged catalytic converter or weak fuel pressure

also sounds like your throwout bearing is toast. Time for a clutch assembly.

post year.
if tranny slips its bad tranny. (depends on year)
if the engine misfire and has weak power that is not a tranny issues
but a engine issue., have some how knows cars tell you which is which.

if you mash the throttle and the dash RPM goes way over 3000 RPM
that is in fact a bad tranny in any gear Forward or reverse.
shaking is the engine, i guess.

do you check fluid levels on your car.
and use the operators guide for the A/T tranny levels, dont guess.
use the book it has tricky steps. read it.

good luck to you.

1996 ranger 3.0 auto tranny won't go into any gears. help!

would the shift lever move? if not it's the tranny lock out, if it moves and feels loose then it's the nut holding the shifting lever on if it won't come out of park then the locking paw is not functioning when you step on the brake. need more make another comment and I'll check back.

5 speed trans. hung in 4th gear

Can;t be sure on this one except to tell you that you may have a bent or broken shift fork in the tranny. The only way to find out is to remove the shifter from the top of the tranny and see if you can see the fork and move it in and out of gear. If not the next step is to remove the tranny and take it apart. With the information you gave that is about all I can help you with unless there is more info you can give to me.

Smog failed cause cam sensor

You should check the make sure the thermostat operates normally and that the fuel octane is 87 or higher (usually the lowest grade available at the station, so I doubt this is the issue). If your engine temperature isn't too high and the fuel is 87 octane or more, I'd expect you probably have a catalytic converter issue

Transmission

Transmission is gone. Get a new vehicle, or get a rebuilt tranny and swap it out.
