There should be two wires at the fan. If you have current at one make sure the other one is grounded. If one is grounded and the other one is hot then the fan is bad. Replace the fan and the problem is fixed. If the ground isn't there that has to be corrected first.

If there is power going to the fan, then the fan motor is burned out.
Can't repair, must be replaced.

The primary radiator fan does not come on.

Check Maxi fuse #3 60 amp in the under hood electrical center #1 .This is power for the #1 cooling fan . Also check the #1 fan control relay in the same under hood electrical center .
These vehicles use 2 360 mm (14.2 in) cooling fans to aid air flow through the radiator. Electric motors drive the cooling fans. These motors are attached to the radiator. Motor size varies with each engine option.
A coolant temperature switch activates the fan motors. This switch regulates voltage to the cooling fan relay. This switch operates the fan whenever the engine coolant temperature exceeds 110°C (230°F). For location and diagnosis, refer to Electrical Diagnosis. A transducer can also activate the circuit, depending on the A/C compressor head pressure going to the condenser.
The engine cooling fan relays provide the high current required for the cooling fan motors using a low current signal coming from the Powertrain Control Module (PCM). This signal is a function of various inputs.
Refer to Electrical Diagnosis for further information and diagnosis of the cooling fan relay.

The radiator fan closest to my engine wont work in my 2003 kia rio, i have checked the relay and swapped the fuses over but no luck. What else could the problem be?

Hi Julie, the dual fan cooling system generally works with the larger fan being the radiator cooling fan and the smaller fan being the A/C cooling fan! If you start the vehicle and turn on the A/C and select the coldest setting within a few seconds both fans should start working!

How can i upgrade my cooling system? eg. radiator

the best way to upgrade your cooling system would be to upgrade your fans. everything else, you can pretty much only do maintenance to it, like change your hoses, your coolant, thermostat, and your water pump. changing the radiator will only be preventative for radiator damage, because the radiator is already the max or close to the max size for the engine bay. like i said before, the best upgrade would be your fans. why your fans? because air needs to circulate through the radiator to cool it more. if not, the heat builds up in the radiator and begins to overheat. another thing you can do is have your fans be on all the time. to do this, follow the lower radiator house to where it connects to the engine, (or the thermostat housing if you know where that is at) and locate the green connector on top of the thermostat housing. disconnect that and stick a paperclip or somehting that wont fall offwhile the car is in motion, into the connection. that leaves the fans on all of the time and continuosly passes air through your radiator, rather than every coulple of minutes, which are stock settings. getting after market fans would help in this situation too. hope this helps, and goodluck.
also, if you want to check this website out, it's specifically for tuning your type of car: www.cb7tuner.com. you might find some people doing some unique things to upgrade their cooling system their, and that could give you ideas.

Fans wont come on at all in my chevrolet silverado 2007 it will run hot if we are still but, if we get moving the engine cools down immediately

sounds like you have a bad temperature sensor/fan switch usaully located on the radiator. turns on fan when coolant reaches operating temperature. when moving the ram air going thru radiator is enough to cool the engine without the fan,

RADIATOR FAN WON'T TURN

The radiator fans work off a temerature sender unit that is located either on the engine itself or on the radiator tank it detects how hot it is, a bit like a thermometer.

This unit opens and closes through a bimetal strip enclosed within the unit it completes a circuit and allows power to flow to the electric fan thus cooling the vehicle.

I would suggest that you have this sender unit checked and repalced as necessary.

Dodge Caravan is notorious for failure of the electronic cooling fan control module (AKA cooling fan relay). This is not a "relay", it is a solid-state control unit, but many people call it a relay anyway.
It is mounted on the inside of the left frame rail just behind the radiator. You have to look up from UNDER the vehicle to see it. It looks like the picture below. The picture shown is very close to actual size.

My radiator fan does not work under any conditions, all fuses ok, wondering which relay is it to check conditions, thanks

Here are the cooling system diagnostic steps...First does the cooling fan kick on (with engine hot)? If not, check the fuse, if good then check the thermoswitch in the radiator (it's about an inch and a half in diameter located on the lower part of the radiator with two wires ) by disconnecting the wires and touching them together (again, with engine hot...at least 190 degrees) if the fan comes on, you have a bad switch. If not connect a 10 gauge jumper wire from the battery to the fan itself (there are three terminals,,, one high, one low and ground). With power direct from the battery (and a ground wire, if necessary) fan should run... if not replace the fan assembly... if it does run then you have a bad cooling fan relay. It will be located above the fuses on the fuse block... Hope this helps...;-)
