Question about 1995 Subaru Impreza

Break lights stay on or they are off and I cant get out of Park

Every so often my brake lights stay on and kill my battery. Then this morning the lights were off, but I could not take the car out of Park. There is a safety of some sort that wont allow the car out of park unless the brakes are activated which I assume runs through the break lights. I replaced the brake switch but I still have the problem. When its working fine, I can hear a clicking under my console which I think is a relay. When its not working the relay is not making the clicking noise. This leads me to believe that I have a problem with wires on the line, or maybe the relay switch itself. I am wondering if anyone can verify this for me, and possibly give me a direction as to where I can find the relay swtich so I can replace it.

Thanks for the help. I actually spent a few hours yesterday afternoon messing around with it and it turns out the connection from the brake switch to the wires that plug into it was loose. So I bent them slightly and now the plug is much tighter to the point its a little bit difficult to pull off. This seems to have been the problem all along. I spent over an hour after that fix trying to make it malfunction again, but it works fine. I recommend anyone with a similar problem to try this solution before buying a new switch as I could of saved the $13 it cost.

Check the connector at the brake light switch above the brake pedal arm, the wires break inside the outer plastic insulator and this kill the brake light circuit. You can buy a replacement connector form Ford for the brake light switch.

My acura integra 95 is having problems with the break lights. They stay on while the cars off. They kill my battery. Any suggestions?

Brake light switch has failed, or the little rubber bushing on the brake pedal arm has fallen off or broken. It activates the switch when the brake pedal is released.

Something is killing my battery when my car is sitting still for about 8 hr or more

It could be a number of things. Something is staying turned on. The most likely cause is all the things that can work without the ignition turned on, These things include headlamps, park lamps, dome lamps, brake lamps, glove box lamps, Vanity lamps in the sun visors, Trunk and hood lamps, or even a power door lock switch that is sticking.

My car will not come out of park

make sure the breake lights work 1st, if not check the brake light switch, the park position is locked until the system senses the brake is depressed, it does this through the brake light switch, if the brake lights work the park solenoid or the cable it operates is sticking or defective.

1999 accord wont shift out of park and no break lights.

u have a problem with ur break light switch,,, its at the brake pedal and is threaded into the brake pedal bracket, if u have a new one and are going to replace it, disconnect the connector, loosen the 14mm nut and remove the switch by turning it counterclockwise...install ther new switch by turning it clockwise and tightening the 14mm nut then reconnect the connector...be sure to adjust the switch or else the brake lights will stay on at all times...draining ur battery and possibly burning out ur bulbs...this also releases ur trans from park to put into gears

Battery may go dead overnight on cars with electronic level control (1990-92).

You may want to get an auto electrician to look at it. This was a common problem
