Question about 1998 GMC Sierra

1 Answer

1998 GMC Sierra has 123K on it, just bought it, and when I use brakes they work great, right up till I get down to 1 to 2 miles an hour and it feels like the anti lock brake kicks in and I lose breaking power.

Actually they did that, and either lied to me that it was good, or that wasn't it. I did not tell them to check that but it is what they checked. They talked to the previous owner who told them it had done that since it was new. I will take it to a dealer service center and have them check it though, thanks.

while trans shutter lightly push brake pedal but not braking, just to feel the brake light, if shutter go off then it is the torque converter clutch or solenoid. But I was thinking 2012 should be on warranty?

ABS and brake light comes on when truck is driven brakes are at 70% and work fine just lights come on on message center after truck is driven about 5 min's. truck is a 2001 gmc 1/2 ton sierra with 119k...

If you have recently bought new tires and the size is larger or smaller than the stock tire size, it will throw off the ABS as the computer thinks the tire is not running at the correct programmed rpm in relation to the overall truck speed. Check with a local tire shop to have it checked.

Sounds like it is starving for fuel...the other guys sound right...check your fuel filter and fuel pressure...if the filter is nearly stopped up the pump would build pressure which would "push" past the filter and make it feel more powerful...then as the pressure drops it starts to starve again until the pressure builds up enough. Also, with the vehicle parked and running, get someone to rev it up while you feel the air coming out of the exhaust...if it isn't a good amount of pressure coming out of the tailpipe, your converter may be stopping up. be careful not to get burned by the exhaust though.
