How do u change a timing belt on a 2002 Hyundai Accent?

Go to the autozone website at autozone.com and register your car. It's free and will give you access to an online repair manual for your car. The steps and procedures for changing the timing belt can be found there. ( I checked). Hope this helped and best wishes.

Timing belt snapped, on my 2002 hyundai accent 1.6 GL automatic tranny, is it a big problem or not? thanks in advance...

Most likely is a big problem as you may have bent the valves which means the head will have to come off to repair any damage

Timing belt on my 2002 hyundai accent 1.6 liter 4cyl

DID THE BELT BREAK AND THEN IT WAS CHANGED. If so then you may have bent valve. IF NOT then vehicle may be timed wrong. Here is a diagram of your timing marks, http://www.2carpros.com/car_repair_information/tec_info/2002/hyundai/accent/2002_hyundai_accent_timing_belt_diagram_marks.htm contact if you need more help. Does a Hyundai 2002 1.6L DOHC have a timing belt or chain? If it's a chain, does it need to be replaced?

If you have an Accent which I believe that you do, it has a belt which needs to be changed every 60-80k miles. This vehicle has what is called an interference engine which basically means that if the belt breaks, the engine will continue to turn BUT the camshaft stops. If any of the valves are open the piston will slam into the open valve (interfere) and you will be looking at a new engine. I would recommend changing the water pump at the same time as well as the tensioner. I would also have the pulleys inspected by a professional mechanic and replaced as needed. If you just change the belt and the tensioner or the pulleys are weak then you can have premature breakage.

2002 Hyundai Accent Problem

first thing i need to know is did the timing belt break?
second is are you sure you aligned the timing marks and after the belt tensioner was tight you rechecked to make sure the timing stayed where you had it.
next step would be a compression check to if a valve was bent whenchanging the belt
i have seen this happen and this engine is an interferance engine.
later paul
