Car will not start. Could it be the Neutral Safety Switch?

Car will not start. Battery is good (just replaced in May). Starter, starter relay, ignition switch, and all fuses check to be okay. HELP! Could it be the Neutral Safety Switch and if so, where is it located??

Prior to the car not starting--I went over some railroad tracks below a hill and hit them a bit hard. All dashboard lights came on & went crazy for a moment. After I stopped the car--it wouldn't start again.

Please reply ASAP, as my job is TRAVELING, so I'm kind of in a pinch!

Check ground wires. The fact that you hit somthing, that could check things up. Would be nice if you mentioned what year is the car and model.
Thank you.

SOURCE: Cranks real hard like battery is almost dead.

It will crank easier with plugs out because you've got no compression working against it. Take a good look at your cables to make sure they didn't heat up & burn off a few strands. Clean all connections good make sure they are 100%. You may have to have a draw test done on starter, just to see if maybe it's getting worn down. Only other thing that comes to mind is timing. If it's belt, & not too hard to pull cover & double check all marks are aligned, then I would do that.

SOURCE: Car will not start. Battery good, starter good.

When you turn the key, does the starter relay click? Could be the heavy connection from the battery to ground or to the starter solenoid. Make sure these connections as well as the battery terminal connections are clean and tight.

SOURCE: I have a 2000 Pontiac Grand Prix. When I turn the

hi this could be a couple of things, have you checked the ignition relay this is the one in the fuse box, to check it, locate the fuse box, open it, and turn ignition if you hear a small click noise in the fuse box this will be the relay and is probably ok, but you can replace it just in case it is not working correctly, the neutral safety switch ( or parking switch ) is located under the center console, you will have to remove the console to get to it it should have a plunger type mechanism as you push the leaver into park it should push the plunger it just might be sticking or have dirt in it and need cleaning, just douse it in wd40 that should get it working again...hope this helps

Are you sure it is the starter relay that you hear clicking?
If the starter relay is truly clicking, check continuity of the wire from the relay to the starter solenoid.
If good, most likely problem is the security system or the neutral safety switch. If no security light is flashing, check continuity of the neutral safety switch. See notes at link below.

2008 ford focus no start. neutral safety switch location?

Do you know how your starting system works ? Do you know about the starter relay ? All power comes to an through the starter relay . The park neutral safety switch is on the transmission. VEHICLE RELAYS Testing from the relay base If you have a anti-theft system problem the engine computer - PCM will not let the starter engage . Go to for a free wiring diagram of the starter circuit on your vehicle .

Why 97 jeep grand cherokee wont start no click ?

Bad ignition switch,
Bad neutral safety switch
Bad starter relay.
Bad starter.

If you understand how relays work, you can remove the relay in the car and jump the switch pins together. If the starter motor turns the engine, you problem is the first 3. If not, its the starter itself.

Ford F-150 2000 5.4L No Crank No Start

Ok it seems you isolated and checked the usual suspects and some that I wouldn't have looked at except one. Did you check the neutral safety switch and Alignment on your gears for the gearshift lever. If it is not aligned properly it may not be hitting the neutral safety switch when in neutral and park. Also if the switch has failed. It may not be allowing your system to start when you move the key to the start position. I'm also wondering if this model has a fusable link in the starter cable but you say that you've isolated and tested both the starter and the relay. So I would really suspect that neutral safety switch. Hope this helps.

My 92 lincoln town car will not start i have replaced the starter, the neutral safety switch and the battery but when i turn key nothing happens but can jump starter and will crank

Yes there is a starter relay in the wiring diagram.
The yellow and lite blue wire goes from the starter solenoid to the relay. There is a yellow wire from the relay to a 30amp fuse. The key switch powers thru the neutral safety switch and then powers the relay on.

No power to the exiter wire on the starter cilinoide

starters are simple, big cable supplies direct power from battery. little wire gets power from starter relay after ignition switch is turned to on position. relay is located under hood in relay box on left safety neutral switch also has to be aligned and good try starting in neutral.

Drove car to work and got snowed in. Car will not start after I dug it out. Starter is not turning over. Had starter tested= good. Battery is also good. I can hear the relay that is located on the firewall...

Check the neutral safety switch.

Foot on the brake.

Shift the gear selector from PARK to Neutral

Start the car. // move lever to Park to warm up the engine.

If it can start in N and not PARK then it's a defective neutral safety switch.
