Most likely a bad coolent temp sensor. To check unplug coolent temp sensor while vehicle is running and see if fans come on. If fan comes on replace coolent temp sensor.

Fig. ECT sensor location-3.7L, 4.7L engines.

icn_arrow.gifBack to Top Inspect/Test/Replace Because ECT (engine coolant temperature) sensor procedures vary depending upon their location, first locate the part. You may need to partially drain the engine coolant to prevent coolant spillage.

  • Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  • Unplug the ECT.
  • Then, unscrew it.
  • Reverse the removal procedures to install the new part.
  • Connect the negative battery cable to the battery.

Coolent seems to be leaking from what looks like a sensor of some kind. It is located in the block by cylinder #1 on the firewall side. What is this and can it leak coolent-is it hard to replace?

This is the coolant temp sensor its pretty simple I would first try tightening it up you can even remove it and add some #1 permatex or silicone then reinstall.
