I have a 99 volkswagen gti automatic i bought it about 4 days ago 2 days after i bought it the checkegine light ha went on i can hear it has a exhaust leak an it rattle dont know if thats cause the exhaust...

For the slow pick up of speed, change the EGR valve. A bad exhaust Gas Emissions valve will make it impossible to pick up speed or climb a hill of any kind. Fix the exhaust system leaks also, That could make the Oxygen sensor not work properly and cause the check engine light to come on. Once you've done all repairs, other than what I've told you, the light will not go out on it's own. You need to take it back to Auto Zone and have them turn it out electronically.

Need to replace the oxygen sensor and reset computer - where is it located and how do I do it? Is there a diagram to see the "hot to"?

The O2 sensor is located on the exhaust. It is normally located on the upper part of the exhaust manifold just after all 4 pipes come together or under the drivers side at the catalytic converter. It will be the only item with 3 to 4 wires running to it on the exhaust. It a simple repair. When you pick up the new Sensor pick up the special tool that is needed to remove and install it. The special tool is either a socket with a slot cut in it to allow the wires to be moved out of the way or an open end wrench with a slot in it. After you remove the old sensor clean the area and put anti-seize on the threads of the new sensor, make sure you use this compound it is usually included with the sensor, put the new sensor in place and tighten down, connect the wires. Move to the battery and if you didn't disconnect the Negative terminal before you started remove it now and wait 1 min, reconnect it and start the vehicle. This should clear any stored codes and reset the computer to accept the new sensor.

96 jeep cherokee, inline 6 4.0... runs fine... after shut off (5-10 mins) acts like its chokeing out, wont start acts like its missing, no combustion (fuel injected) let sit for 20 mins, fires up fine......

Try the pick-up coil that is under the distributer cap.Remove the cap and rotor button then remove the plate that is under the rotor button.Next you need to take off the relucter wheel that is in the way so you can take out the bolts and remove the pick-up coil.

Bolts to manifold & exhaust rusted

Bolts are screwed into the manifold (actually studs)
Best thing to do is to have someone heat them with a torch and get the nuts free. If the studs are in really bad shape, you will have to remove them from manifold and replace them (usually a torch job as well) Not a job for a burns o matic...need a real torch for this one! Or, just snap them off and remove manifolds to fix them.

Where is the oxygen sensor?

Follow your exhaust manifold down from engine, it will be on side of exhaust, sticking out 2-3 inches, with wires coming from it to a connector.
