My car wont start, fuel pump problem?

My car wont start, it sounds like it is going to and the battery is fine. It turns over but just wont start, i heard i may have a timing belt problem but i am not getting the fast high pitched noise that usually accompanies a timing belt problem.

How can I determine if it is a Fuel problem? I've read that the fuel pump is in the gas tank.

Fast high pitched noise? never seen or heard of this, done 100's of belts, this noise is caused by a belt being adjusted to tight, belts just break. do you have fuel pressure, what engine do u have?

Overheated while driving.

Your timing belt broke. Normally it won't start after breaking, but it could have jumped a gear and when it did start it ran very poorly. Finally it broke completely. Timing belts are only good for 60-80,000 miles, most never change it till it breaks. Unfortunately many engines are ruined when the timing belt breaks due to no clearance between the valves and pistons. Your car, depending on which engine, is safe. It has clearance built in . While you replace the timing belt, I would reccommend replacing the timing gears too, and if you have high mileage, replace the water pump, because it is behind the belt.

Sounds like your timing belt may have broken. It's really a job for a proper mechanic if so.

A few days ago my serptene belt flew off. I replaced the next day, then i had to replace the tensioner pulley. I started the truck and every thing seemed fine. Then i turned the truck off and inpected...

you could have an alternator problem, I am wandering if the serptene belt is on properly or tight. if the belt is slipping and not turning the alternator pulley then it will not charge you battery and if you drive it the new battery will go dead and the alternator is not charging it so it will not start.
i would charge the battery and start the car and watch the belt and the alternator and see if the pulley is turning, they will also make a squelling sound if loose.
hope this helps

Tried to start my truck...everything seemed normal, but just before the engine kicked in, I heard a faint, muffled bump. I turned the ignition again...starter works fine and battery is strong; but no luck...

You may have a broken timing belt.
When they break, they turn over but it sounds a little different, it has an uneven sound like it has a free spot making it speed up and down as it turns over,
Somtimes they bend valves when they break, and gets expensive to fix. but you may be lucky since you wernt driving down the road. the only way to knopw for sure is to replace the belt and start it up. it should run smooth without a miss

2000Toyota RAV4. stalled. wont start.

I don't want to be a prophet of doom but it sounds like the timing belt jumped a tooth. If it did the noise you heard would have been the valve touching the piston. If it went another tooth the engine will not start. You need to check the timing, correct it and try and start it. If it either locks up or won't start you probably have a bent valve.

My daughters 2004 Pontiac Sunbird with the 2.2 ocassionaly wont start. She said when this no start condition happens the car turns over but sounds funny. It idles and runs out great. I have heard it hot...

It would not run good at all if it was the timing belt. In fact it probably wouldn't even start at all. It sounds more like loose bolts on the starter or the tension pully that keeps the serpentine belt tight. That one has to be replaced.

The timing belt should not have been affwcted. Sounds like you have everything chk'd and accounted for.. The best way to chk the cam and crank is a compression test.
