Question about 2005 Cadillac CTS

1 Answer

Rear window doesn't work and it sounds like the mechanism inside broke when my son went to put it up. Kind of plastic grinding sound now. Wasn't sure if it's something I could fix or what it may cost to take it to someone.

This is a cable / pully regulator (see below). it sounds like the cable is binding up in the spool. if this is the case the regulator will have to be replaced. check with the dealer or your local glass shop for pricing.
(or www.directauto.com for after market regulators)
hope this helps.

02 ford escape awd, have weird grinding sound from transfercase when on dry pavement only.it works but its a.bad noise.

You've basically answered your own question, if you want to know specifics on your transfer case I can find that out for you but it is evidently broken. Most awds have some sort of clutch mechanism inside that allows some slippage between the front and the rear. When this goes bad it will either grind like you indicated or lock up causing the tires to skip on pavement. The front and rear are working against each other causing the grinding on pavement, you won't notice this on snow, dirt, gravel or ice because your tires are sliding rather than putting so much stress on the transfer case to make it grind.

Driver side window came off track

it is not off track. the grinding or metal scratching noise is from the window regulator cable that has broke off from the plastic idler pulley on regulator and is now wound up on the motor. you need a new window regulator.

Power Window assemblY Needs replacing. I've had to replace my driver side assembly a few times over the years in my 97 accord after a wreck on that side. Something doesn't line up right anymore and it eventually causes it to wear out. Steel cable and plastic parts don't work real well together over time- that plastic can wear out. Tricky part can be getting the door panel off. From there it can be pretty straight forward. May need an extra set of hands to get the window just right to attach to the bracket on the regulator assembly. May find some useful videos online, even if it's for a different car it can give you a good idea.

After new brakes, grinding noise in rear. repair guy says need $600.00 proportion valve job! Already had new one 3 years ago.

The grinding sound could be a brake pad installed wrong or backwards. There should not be any grinding what so ever. There is a serious problem.I would take it to a shop or dealership you can trust and have it check out.

Sounds like one of the CV axles broke and it is trying to spin inside the joint. Only fix for that is to buy a new CV axle. Most auto parts stores should carry them. The part is about $50-80 and should take about 30mins-1hr for most people with the proper tools.

Driver rear window does not work

this is kinda expensive. however it can start cheap if you know what you doing. with my mustang i did it in 3 steps to pinpoint the prob. first i checked motor. i took the regulater off and checked the motor itself. then put the reg back on and checked again with a voltmeter. moved up to the switch and check that out with a volt meter. the volt meter said it was getting power to go down but not up. there for i paid the $12 for a new switch. try this process and see if it works for you. good luck bro.

Driver window went down but know it wont go back up.

depends on the type of car it is...and what really is wrong with it...I have a 00 grand prix so does my son...our cars all the windows this problem has happened to...the plastic piece is broke inside the window....its on a window regulator...you can't buy just the piece it has to be the whole piece...if you are lucky you can order them over the internet, if you never put one in yourself. you probably won't be able to. other than that take it to a mechanic...my cost was 400 a window...depends on the car...it could be the motor has burned out on that window if it was electric window...good luck.
