Car would not start so replaced battery, then alternator; Ran great for roadtrip then shut down on the freeway. Can hear the fuel pump, so replaced the fuel filter; has spark. Has fuel. Wires are in good order. What are we missing--got to be something with the fuel injection system?

WHEN A CAR SHUT DOWN ON HIGHWAY OR FREEWAY.YOU CAN STILL HAVE FAULTY FUEL PUMP.IT COULD BE RUNNING BUT THE FUEL PRESSURE CAN BE TOO WEAK.THE 2.5 ENGINE FUEL PRESSURE IS 6.0 TO 7.0 PSI AND THE 3.3 ENGINE FUEL PRESSURE IS 37 TO 43 PSI. ANOTHER THING CHECK TO MAKE YOUR COOLANT IS NOT LOW.LOW COOLANT CAUSES ENGINE GET TOO HOT SHUT OFF.CHECK PVC VALVE AND EGR VALVE MAKE SURE THEY ARE NOT STUCK OPEN OR DISCONNECTED.AND MAKE SURE IDLE SPEED IS NOT TOO LOW YOU IDLE SPEED IS ON THE FACTORY STICKER UNDER THE HOOD.

I have a 2004 PT Cruiser I bought it used it ran great then one morning it wouldn't start the battery is good the starters good brand new alternator checked all the fuses it still won't run

Have a friend turn the key for you and listen by the fuel tank to hear if the fuel pump comes 'on'. It you don;t hear anything... you know it's not working. Get the Haynes Manual and unconnect the fuel pump and use a simple (cheap) multimeter to measure voltage to make sure it's getting power, if it is, needs a new fuel pump. If it doesn't, you'd better check the fuse and relay. Sometimes the ignition switch itself is faulty.... the fuel pump is connected directly to the ignition switch, if it's not getting power. (There are two main grounds, one at the starter and the other at the battery/fuse box... make sure they are corrosion free.) Was the new ECU synched with the VIN and odometer loaded into the memory? If not, the pro didn't do it right and the vehicle will never start until it is.

Hi Rockandroll, Underground, or old timer? I think I would have the fuel filter replaced and have the fuel delivery of the pump checked. Once you've done that have the fuel rail pressure regulator checked too. Regards John

Hi there, i have a 1994 cadillac deville that will not start

Well because you killed battery down you need to recharge battery with a good charger for an hour or two. You need enough amps to turn over starter & energize fuelpump. Just because starter turns over doesn't mean you have enough to power fuelpump. Before you connect battery charger disconnect battery cable while charging. This will clear stored codes. After charging, hook up battery see if codes return.

2002 VW Jetta died while driving it.

Either you threw a belt or the alternator went bad. Your symptoms sound like alternator...you were running on the battery till you ran out of power.

I am having some issues with the fuel pump we suspect. The fuel pump is located in the fuel tank and occationally I can hear a motor running secondary to starting the diesel. As things have progessed i initial thought perhaps I had a hole in my muffler, but my mechanic has assured me that is not the case. The fuel pump may be a good place to start.
