MOST OF THE TIME WHEN COOLING FANS KEEP RUNNING WHEN ENGINE IS OFF.ENGINE RUNNING HOT.YOU COULD HAVE A DEFECTIVE WATER PUMP.THERMOSTAT FAULTY AND THE RADIATOR CORE IS BLOCKED.CHECK GRILLE FOR RESTRICTION LIKE LEAVES AND OTHER DEBRIS.HAVE YOUR CAR HOOK TO A SCANNER THAT WILL TELL YOU YOUR COOLANT TEMPERATURE.THAT WAY YOU WILL KNOW ITS THE THERMOSTAT.

Where is the engine over heat shut off switch?

Hello - when the engine overheats (and your ignition/key switch) is still functional you basically have two options:

1. Turn the vehicle off at the key (you could also disconnect the negative terminal on the battery - cars aren't the way they used to be - you can't disconnect the cable to see if the alternator is producing the electricity to keep the vehicle going - if you disconnect the battery the car is down for the count with the electrical systems now.

2. If you're driving in a residential area or city (redlight to redlight or stop sign to stop sign) - all that stop and go traffic prevents you from running the vehicle down the road without stopping to get cool air pushing through the radiator. If you're ever in a situation and you have no choice but to drive and the car is overheating/but not blowing the bypass on the cap - you can also get out on the interstate - going those speeds without stopping forces cool air over/through the radiator - helping to cool down the coolant faster. Unless there is a near total meltdown - that will actually help the engine cool faster than just the radiator fan will.

Cooling fans continue to run when engine is shut off

This is normal. Cooling fans today are not turned by the fan belt but are run by an electric motor. The fan continues running until the coolant temperature is reduced

check battery volts should be 12.6 volts.if not battery dead.have battery charged and test if battery can be charged alternator faulty.if battery dead cant be charged replace battery.and clean battery cables if EPC warning light still flash have vechicle code scan for faulty accelerator control system or mass air flow sensor.to get vechicle started after replacing battery just turn ignition switch to the on position for 30 seconds then turn off ignition switch then start engine.

Cooling fan will not shut off afeter the car is turned off

I remember I used to have a sorocco that did this which was a normal thing. When the engine cools off it would eventually turn off. Wait to see if it turns off after the engine cools down. If it still keep on runnin then you may have a bad temperature switch.

The car is overheating water is backing into the overflow and bubbling this is a 2001 volkswagen Beetle 2.0

several possable problems, with car cooled down, start engine and turn on a/c, this should make your cooling fan come on, if it doesn't problem is in that circuit or fan itself. if the cooling fan comes on, watch temp gauge when it reaches half way up gauge carefully go touch upper and lower hoses, both should be warm. if one is still cool that is a flow problem and could be the thermostat or a failing water pump.

A/C fans blow but no cool air coming out...is it a resistor or maybe a fuse? Any suggestions.

Sounds like the compressor isn't coming on. There is a fuse that controls the clutch on the compressor. You should here a click when the air is turned on or the defrost. This click is the clutch engaging. I'm not sure of the location of the fuse or circuit breaker on your vehicle but most are in the engine compartment.
