Question about 1991 Ford Explorer

1 Answer

1991 Explorer..new wires, plugs and injectors working OK. New Crank sensor also. Idles fine but has no power when driving, especially uphill. Compression and fuel pressure are all within specs. (right on) It has been sitting in garage for 3 years. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

Thanks for the help...I suspected the converter but wanted a second opinion :-) I haven't replaced it yet, but I pulled it off, punched it out and now the power is good.

    Thanks Again

Have the exhaust back ptessure chk'd for a bad cat converter. Make sure you have fresh fuel and the ck the mass air flow densor in the intake ducting. Wash it off withCRC electrical srap. Was thorouhly but do not brush or rub the sensor or touch it. It is vrty fragile and very expensuve to replace. Do not use compressed air. It will dry on its own. Make sure your air filter is clean. Good luck, Ned

If you can make the injector click without cranking the engine, the injector ground circuit is bad, probably the computer.
If the injector only clicks when cranking, the ground circuit is working right, so the problem is with the injector drive circuit. There should be a fuse for the injectors in the power distribution box by the battery. Have you checked for that? Also check for power to the fuse with key on. Use a testlight or voltmeter to check for power.

1992 Lumina Backfire - I have a 1992 Lumina Euro, 77K miles, 3.1 V-6. Under moderate to hard acceleration the engine will backfire and you can smell gas. The spark control module, coils, wires, plugs,...

I know you mentioned the EGR valve has been replaced, but you may have a bad 'new' part. I know the car is electronic, but has anyone checked its ignition timing (timing belt been looked at, I know it only has 77k on it). Is the fuel pressure regulator OK and it vacumm supply?

TURN OFF RADIO FIRST.REMOVE NEGATIVE BATTERY CABLE FOR A MINUTE OR TWO.RECONNECT NEGATIVE BATTERY.CRANK CAR UP LET IDLE TO GET OPERATING TEMPERATURE FIRST DONT ACCELERATE ENGINE.GIVE ENGINE TIME TO RECOGNIZE THE NEW TPS SENSOR.IF CAR STILL MISS REPLACE FUEL FILTER.CLEAN FUEL INJECTORS WITH A BOTTLE OF FUEL INJECTOR CLEANER BY POURING IT IN A FULL TANK OF GAS.DRIVE CAR AROUND SO CLEANER CAN FLUSH OUT THE INJECTORS.

2001 Ford Explorer idles rough when at a stop in drive. Runs fine and idles in park fine. Surges also. Has new spark plugs and wires. Any suggestions of what may be causing the problem?

sounds like a vacuum intake leak..check a those little tubes for cracks and security. also check your transmission levels, this will sometimes cause a surging problem while driving..if all this checks good then it might be dirty or clogged injectors..purchase a can of Sea Foam from Autozone $10 pour in 1/2 can to half tank of gas and drive around for thirty minutes..highway driving preferred, and see if that will clean up the fuel system. Can i get some feedback, thanks

2000 ford explorer 4.0 x-engine is stalling, missing and lose power while driving

I personally would check the fuel pressure. Then I would go back to the coil. I have seen brand new bad coils out of the box. The symptoms of a loss of power point to this component, especially if the car idles well, but loses power when accelerating. Please do not rate this reply - we all are left to grasp at straws since you have changed pretty much everything. Good Luck. Please post the final fix of the problem.
