Push the accelerator pedal to the floor and hold it there while starting. Try for 10 seconds and wait for a while. Don't release the pedal.Repeat again while holding the pedal down all the time. The extra air should clear the fuel.

Car shifts but gears do not engage

It sounds like you have a clutch problem, this is what happens when your clutch is no more, You may have noticed it getting sluggish for some time or lots of motor and not much acceleration. If this sounds familar, get your clutch checked. When it gives up, you are not going anywhere.

The 4 wd on my '01 4Runner won't engage. I tried "hitting" the a.d.d. actuator w/ a hammer to see if that would free it up and unplugged the 4wd ECU, neither worked. Any suggestions??

Have you check all your fuses??

Try this: Put the car in low gear, engage the 4 wheel drive, wait a few seconds (the 4wd indicator lights should be flashing) then accelerate to about 3500 rpm and let off the gas pedal all the way. You should here a 'clunk' when it engages.
