Most places that sell batteries have a chart that shows applications. By rule, get the battery with the highest cold cranking amps that you can afford. Make note of any potential clearance problems especially between the hood and top terminals and anywhere close to the positive terminal. Make sure that the existing cables will reach the posts which are reversed on some batteries. If there is a battery in it, use that one as a guide. Make sure that whatever battery you obtain is fully charged as your alternator is not designed to charge a battery, only to maintain the state of charge.

What could be draining the battery in a 1988 Dodge Ramcharger?

Any number of things. The easiest way to find out, or at least narrow it down, is with a multimeter. Disconnect the positive battery cable, put the meter (set to amps) in series with the disconnected cable and the battery post. Set the amps scale to the highest mark (probably 10 amps) and have someone start pulling fuses, one by one, until you get to one that drops the current usage down to near zero. That would be the circuit that is causing you a problem.
