SOURCE: hood release cable is broken

Is there any part of the cable inside the cabin that you can pull with a pair of pliers? I suggest that you try that. You may need to disassemble it from the pull handle to make that work.

SOURCE: can't open hood

if you can still get to the little steel cable, a extremely tight pair of vise grips and a moderate amount of force will do the trick.

While driving approx. 25 mph, bang and vibration like a flat tire quickly followed by horrible rotten egg smell. started stalling out and vibrating very hard couldn't get over 40 mph.

It sounds like a plugged catalytic converter. It's kind of like a muffler type thing on your exhaust system. It burns all the unburned fuel that your engine sends through the exhaust for emission control. After a while they can get plugged up & need to be replaced. It's not letting exhaust out so it's choking your engine.=vibration, smell & backfire. You might be able to limp it to a service garage.. Save yourself a tow charge. Good luck

Does you engine sound like it has an exhaust leak under the hood? 89 4.0 litres were NOTORIOUS for the exh manifold cracking between #5 and # 6 cylinders. If this is the case, the O2 sensor is not seeing the proper amount of exhaust, and it will send the fuel injectors a richer condition than needed.

How do i fix engine giving out so much black smoke and not even powering?

Black smoke is unburned fuel and a lot of it, so maybe you have a fuel problem. I would first check fuel pressure to see if you have a fuel pump or fuel pressure regulator problem. If the pressure is correct, next you could check for clogged or leaking fuel injectors.

If any cylinders are misfiring, that could be pushing a lot of unburned gas out the exhaust. Pull the spark plugs and see how they have been firing. That may indicate any problem cylinders. If all plugs are uniformly coated with a black soot, that means the fuel/air ratio is very rich. Check for air obstructions like a dirty air filter or check the fuel pressure regulator.

I smell gas

Sound like it could be quite a few things. Off the top of my head I would check that the car is firing on all cylinders. If one has gone down you will have fuel travelling along the exhaust pipe, which could explain the smell. If you have lost a cylinder it will be as rough as a badgers B*M, and you will get rubbish mpg. Check if you can smell fuel from the exhaust pipe (Not while the car is running I don't want you to get carbon monoxide poisoning), just give it a quick start and a few revs first. If it is or anyway If you take the plugs out one at a time look at them to see if they are wet and smell of fuel, (After a quick start and a rev). Check your air filter as well you could even take it out and see how it runs (Not for long just a quick blast) see how you go with that.
Good Luck

Runs ******

if it smells like raw, unburned fuel, you may have an injector stuck open. i assume it clears up and drive good after a short warm up. there will be evidence of which cylinder has the bad injector by pulling out the spark plugs. the affected cylinder will be washed clean and smell like unburned fuel. the plug may also be "wet black" and of course smell like raw fuel.

A code P0440 could mean one or more of the following has happened:

  • The gas cap is not installed or working properly
  • The purge solenoid has failed
  • The canister is plugged and not working properly

Gas order inside vehicle - could this be caused from the fuel pressure regulator?

If it is a gasoline ( raw fuel, unburned) smell, it could be caused by a number of fuel line related problems and leaks including the fuel pressure regulator. If it is an exhaust smell, check for an exhaust leak in or near the engine compartment.
There should be a cowling hood seal at the rear of the hood that is supposed to keep those fumes out of the passanger compartment.
Good luck.

I have a 1995 gmc sarafi it turns over but won't start after i smell gas

The smell of gas after trying to start the engine means that there is unburned fuel in the engine. This could be a variety of problems. It could be too much fuel going to the cylinder which would mean the regulator could need replacing. It could also be that you need new spark plugs or plug wires because the cylinders arent firing which would cause the gas to burn off. I hate to sound vague but that kind of problem in my opinion needs more troubleshooting to determine the source of the problem.

Ford fiesta diesel endura turn's over & try's

Normally, only 2 things stop a diesel from firing:
1. no fuel
2. not enough compression

No fuel can be caused by (obviously no fuel) or a failed fuel pump. To test, have someone turn the engine over and then sniff at the exhaust - does it smell of unburned diesel? (If you've run out of diesel recently, you may have an airlock in the system, this needs bleeding out.)

Not enough compression needs specialised equipment to test - that's a garage job.
