Question about 1995 Buick LeSabre

Open Question

1995 buick lesabre 3.8L Runs ok at idle and slow speeds. At highway speeds above 50mph (in over drive) does ok until you accelerate then starts misfiring (bucking and snorting). Have swapped all three coils one at a time with a known good one. Checked resistance on all plug wires (AC Delco 3 yrs old) between 5K and 8K on all with no fluctuations while moving the wire. All plugs 6 mos old very clean. Measured 35psi fuel pressure on the rail. Unplugging the fuel pressure regulator bumps it up to about 40psi (steady), but when I drive the car with the pressure regulator unplugged, no change in performance. Is the fuel pressure still too low at 40psi?

the way i check the coil is move it to another cyl clear the codes and see if it follows the coil. injectors can be cleaned but when they are bad enough to cause a code to be set it needs to be replaced.

hey thanks for bringing me up to speed. ive been working on many other problems but with your great explanation i remember.
we need to check the compression on that cyl. and compare it to the compression on 2 other cylinders your choice.
but before you do this get a can of carb cleaner . and with the car idling spray around the intake manifold in the area of #6 cyl. what we are looking for is a small vacuum leak that would also act like this. with the engine idling and spraying around the intake the engines idle sould not change and if it does when you spray you have an intake leaking.
let me know how it turns out.

SOURCE: 1995 Buick Lesabre custom stalling and idle

did you clean the idle speed control air bypass valve?, u do this by spraying carb spray into the intake while the engine is held at hi idle so it won't stall, use up about half the can, then shut down and disconnect battery for 5 minutes to reset system idle learn, drive the car for a few days and let me know if the problem is fixed.

This sounds like a vacuum leak prob. At low acceleration there isn't quite enough vacuum for smooth shift.. But romp on it and it creates a vacuum at the same rate as your gas is getting sucked.

1993 LeSabre- just started running rough mostly when put in reverse or drive. Not so much in park or neutral but a little, maybe cause of higher idle speed in park. Also runs a bit rough at slow speeds....

Sounds like the Torque Converter Lock-up Solenoid is failing. It will cause the car to run rough at slow speeds, and sometimes stall while idling in gear (at a stop sign for example)
To test this, locate the 2 or 3 wire connector on the left side of the transmission (looking at it from the left side of the car, it can be hard to find some times) Disconnect it. If the car runs and drives ok with it unplugged, the Lock Up Solenoid has gone bad. The solenoid itself is inside the valve body, inside the transmission (above the transmission pan)

Hi- I have a 96' Buick LeSabre, and I thought a few weeks back, that I had bad fuel problems. The car ran rough, poor idle, and jerky acceleration... I tried fuel treatment, (Marvels), I changed the PCV...

On top of the engine find the fuel rail, unplug the vacuum line that is on the pressure regulator and see if it is leaking fuel. if it is that is your problem, it is sending raw fuel into your intake.

Have the idle sensor checked and or replaced. I had a 1992 Ponitac that had the same problem.

1995 Buick LeSabre - Stalls then restarts while driving

Has the fuel filter been chg. lately. If it has, maybe a fuel pressure test is in order. Fuel pump might be geeting weak and does not show up until it gets warmed up. Fuel pumps are a common problem on this type of cars.

Slow acceleration, high rpm

This sounds normal to me! The engine will read that rpm when accerlerating lightly. It is the stall of the torque convertor. The oil pressure will always be higher when the rpm's are higher, or when the oil is thicker - cold.

Virbration? That is a different story. Oil won't cause that.
