The tapping is possibly sticking lifters or damaged rocker arm shafts. The steaming and coolant smell maybe a leaking head gasket or worst a cracked cylinder head. If you have a coolant pressure tester you can remove all the spark plugs and then apply pressure to the cooling system. Leave it set with pressure applied for 15 min. then spin the engine over with the starter and see if there is water coming out of the spark plug holes.

What is the name of the part the oil filter connect to on a 97 isuzu rodeo

I honestly do not know what the Japanese call it. Most American mechanics would call it the oil filter mount or the oil filter adapter.

Oil gage goes to zero when i stop but goes up when i take off also using lots of oil but no smoke out the exhaust does this mean my oil pump is going bad 1996 isuzu rodeo

May mean yor engine is burning the oil or you have a leak.
Look in coolant recovery tank or radiator when vehicle is cold and is if coolant is milky or there is oil in it.If either of these conditions are there you may have a bad head gasket.
If none of these conditions are there then have the vehicle inspected for oil leaks.
Arears to focus on: Rear main seal, oil pan, valve cover gaskets, cam and crank shaft seals, oil pump seal and gasket.
Good luck

2001 Isuzu Rodeo 3.2 V6 Oil Burning and motor tapping loudly

Do a compression test on all the cylinders and see if the rocker arms are adjusted to the right. If the compression is bad then there will be no power at all and if the Rocker arms need adjustments you could be losing some power there too.
You can try cleaning out the engine from the inside out. I have done this many times when I buy a use car. I run Marvel Mystery Oil with the engine oil for about 4 months and keep an eye on the oil level. Marvel is a thinner oil and clean out the inside by removing the carbon collected and oil sludge inside the engine.
You may end up having to replace the oil pressure sensor, it seams to always be the first to go bad and may get some oil leaks. But once the engine is cleaned up you'll have a better understanding on the condition on the engine and be surprised on how well it runs after.
Just keep an eye on the oil level and change the oil and filter to free up the engine, then use the recommended oil and add Lucas oil and or Restor to help the loose of compression.
The loud tapping tells me that your not getting the oil to the top of the engine and that may be a bad oil pump but it may also be a plugged oil pump screen and the Marvel Mystery oil will clean up the oil screen.
Good luck and hope this helps, Keep me posted on your Rodeo.

Knocking when started, noise disappears in higher gears.

try an oil change my brothers isuzu used to do that and he did an oil change resulting in a fix. If it gets worse you could have a piston shoot through the oil pan.

Engine Knock on a 98 Isuzu Rodeo

Most likely it is a rod bearing and motor would have to be dissassembled to diagnose, you might want think about installing a low milege used replacment since it was run 5 quarts low on motor oil.
