1993 Ford Escort brake lights

When I turn on my headlights, the rear passenger side brake light will go out when the brake pedal is pressed in. I noticed that the passenger side of the tail lights appears dimmer on that side. I swapped out bulbs, making certain they are the correct bulbs...same results. Car is a 1993 Ford Escort LX wagon. Could this be fuse related, ground issue? Could I wire into the drivers side socket? What could possibly make a tail light stop functioning normaly?

Sounds like a ground problem or malfunctioning signal switch

This may occur primarily because the current output of battery is insufficient to meet the requirement when all the bulbsare switched on.Check the battery for its parameters like output current and voltage. Also check the grounds are properly done.also check if the wires are not worn out.because this if the wire are too worn out their current carryin capacity decreases.

Sounds like possibly the ignition switch is going out. Try jiggling the key in the ignition in the on position and see if your lights come back on.

Emergency Flashers totally out, Rear lights malfunctioning

Check the ground on the passenger side rear lights, it's likely bad. As for the hazards, sounds like a bad flasher or fuse.

1998 ford escort wagon brake lights out. bulbs and fuses changed.

Sounds like your brake light switch has gone bad. It is located on your brake pedal and is easy to change and relatively inexpensive. Let me know if you have any more questions. Thanks for rating my response and for using FixYa!

Turn signal and brake light problem

Had the exact problem on my 98 ranger 2wd reg cab stepside with the 2.5l 4 banger. Anytime I pressed the brake my passenger side turn signal would light up solid on the dash and the lights outside. I pulled both rear lights and both headlights and turn signals to check for corrosion/loose wires. Nothing. I checked and cleaned all my grounds and fuses. Nothing. Not until I followed my rear taillights wire harness did I find the problem. The two taillights are connected to each other via wire harness. My truck had the harness split with an adapter for trailer brakes. This harness was the problem. It is located under the rear bumper by the spare tire. Simply disconnect two harness plugs going into each side and remove it. Then connect the two plugs to each other. Problem solved.

Rear driver's side tail light goes off when break pedal applied

I had the same problem. They were on when the headlights were on, but turned off instead of brightening when I pressed the brake. I replaced the bulb and now it gets bright when I press the brake instead of turning off (like it should).

Brake lights

I have a 98 and had the same problem just today, I found the problem by looking up where the pedal goes to and you will see two switches that the pedal hits when released, its the switch on the left side of the car, you will notice two (well one is prolly missing since the lights wont go off) blueish rubber pads on the brake pedal that hit the switches. since the one that goes to the switch to turn the lights off is gone go out and buy a small plastic body push screw to insert in the hole the old pad was in. there ya go all fixed

Troubleshooting 1984 chrysler back brake lights

There is a contact (not short) between wire to brake light and to back light on passenger side, when you press the pedal, electricity is absorbed by barake light bulb and back light dim out. Check cables and connectors, if necessary follow back cables to battery.
If the contact is a short the back lights fuse will blow, I think it is a contact between same polarity cables, not a short.
