Question about 2000 Ford Focus

2000 Focus has engine "shake" and won't idle

My 2000 Ford Focus has around 140,000mi. Have had multiple problems since around 115k. Have already replaces a/c condensor, fuel filter, alternator, PCV valve, o2 sensor, ect. Just today on the interstate, the check engine light came on and it started shaking really bad and felt like it hit a "limit" of about 40mph. It did speed up but with very slow acceleration. RPMs would hit 5k before shifting. After gettin it home and starting it later on it would start but would not hold an idle speed. The engine would shake really bad until it died. I cranked it again and feathered the throttle under the hood with my finger, this just caused it to die. Is this a tran. issue or sensor of some sort? Please tell me what this is if you know. Thank you

Always start with check engine issues first and repair them, then move on to no code symptoms. Go to shop with a good scan tool ,not a $200.00 auto part store frebee and no code book

does your engine idle fast or slow? You may need to clean the idle selonoid or the throttle body. They carbon up and stick.

Hi
1 is the car losing power?
2 is the car rough at idle? or slightly over reving.

If so most likely cause for 2 is the air mass sensor, this go's to the air box you can cleran them with carb cleaner and sometimes this will fix it.

Get back to me for more ingo.

Engine revs on ford focus

hi there, can you tell me the engine size. it sounds like you have a problem with the idle speed adjuster. you can try and remove it for cleaning. they tend to carbon up inside and stick, which causes the idle problems. however if your car is a diesel then this fix does not apply. cheers. dave

There are no codes showing, my check engine light is off, and my truck is still running rich. I have already change the o2 senser and it idells up really high when you start it.

Check for a vacuum leak around the intake manifold area.It could also be something to do with any of the sensors mounted on the intake manifold, although they should set a trouble code.Manifold air pressure sensor, throttle position sensor, mass air flow sensor, idle air control sensor, etc.Take some brake cleaner or WD 40 and while engine is idling, spray around the intake manifold. If the engine speed goes up or down in relation to your spraying, that's the area of the vacuum leak.Good luck.
