Astra twintop 1.8 petrol car turns over but won't start and brake light's permanently on no power to the fuel pump anybody any ideas

Did you check to see if your battery has run down?
If the brake light switch under the pedal is out of adjustment or defective, it could leave brake lights on and could drain your battery to the point that fuel pump may not work.
If it is not the brake light switch, sounds like an engine computer (ECU) problem. Grab a code reader and get any fault readings and check with your local dealer or parts store to see if that is the problem.

How do I reset the computer on 2001 Mitsubishi after replacing the alternator it is a petrol 4 x 4 a 3litre

Not sure what your meaning of why need to reset the computer, the alternator has nothing to do with a check engine light so if that is the issue with check engine light need to scan vehicle find what code is fix that if what to know how to dead boot computer 1.pull + battery cable leave off 2. Get in vehicle turn lights on yes I know there not going to come on we are draining the capacitors in computer 3. Leave light switch on depress brake several times 4. Insert ignition key turn like cranking vehicle couple times. 5. Turn everything off lights key an reinstall + battery cable start vehicle check engine light should be off. Basically that is a dead boot for computer draining all power for it.

Just rebuilt front and rear brakes. How do I bleed the ABS brake system and make the dash light go out ??

If your brake pedal is firm you might try disconnecting the ground side of your battery to reset the computer. Leave the battery unhooked for at least a minute. Good luck.

I was driving my 08 Chrysler Town & Country and I

The easiest and simple should be fixed first . Turn off everything in your vehicle, radio, ac. lights, windshield wipers etc. Put the car in park , turn off the key. Disconnect the battery, wait 5 minutes. Without turning anything on in the car reconnect the battery, leave the car in park and start the car. Allow the car to sit and idle for 10 minutes. This allows the cars computer to reset all gauges and sensors uninterupted. If everything remains off including interior lights etc. the computer will not miss any steps in resetting. This step will also reset your cars idle.

Brakes have been replaced all round van, abs light was on reason they said brakes were low. abs still comes ondavi

It may be a sensor associated with the ABS system that must be reset or replaced in addition to the break replacement. Try disconnecting the battery terminals under the hood (BE CAREFUL!) and let it sit for a few minutes. Then reconnect the battery and check if that resolved your problem. By disconnecting the battery you are allowing the cars computer to reset itself, so to speak, and when it starts up again it may find that the bit of code indicating a problem with ABS is now gone as you have fixed it. If that doesn't work take the car to a mechanic or auto parts store and use their computer to run a diagnostic on the computer, (It used to be that auto parts stores would lend you their computer against your drivers license so long as you just used it quickly in the parking lot.) it will generate a specific code that is traceable to the specific problem.

Turning off the check engine light...2001 VW Jetta TDI

You have a few options:

1.) Don't do anything. Once the computer sees the engine run normally for a few cycles, it will automatically clear the code.

2.) Connect a scan tool to the OBDI port to clear the codes manually. Local auto parts stores will often perform scan tool diagnostics free of charge.

3.) If you want to remove the code quickly without any special tools, just disconnect the battery and leave it disconnected for a while. (How long varies for different cars, as some engine PCM's have capacitors that hold a charge for a short while after losing battery power.)

Location of computer connection in 2006 XJ8L

Hi.
Try disconnecting the battery for a few minutes ,to reset the computers memory, and reconnect.
I have had a few cars with this problem, and its the "gremlins" as I call them, giving you false signals, usually originating when battery is flat.
Good Luck.
John.
