Question about 1998 Nissan Sentra

Open Question

I'm driving a 1998 nissan sentra. I got it new and have driven about 60000 miles and has about 85000 now. In this time I had to replace 2 water pumps. At $300 for repair. I will try to replace it if needed again. There are 5 bolts holding it on, and a pulley to remove to reach the pump. No removal of hoses is required. Maybe you can tell me what else must be removed, or give some tips on procedure. Thanks Don Cole

Where are the timing marks for a 1998 Nissan sentra gxe

most vehicles have a crank timing mark which sit on the crank pulley, its the big pulley at the bottom of the motor
the cam pulley should also have a mark on the pulley if its belt driven that should line up with a notch on the head or tappet cover
if its chain driven you will need to remove the tappet cover and your cam sprockets will have marks on them that must line up facing each other or facing level with the sides of the head

My Mitsubishi Endeavor (2005) has run 60000 miles. I am going to change Timing Belt. Is Water Pump actuated by the Timing Belt ? So does it make sense to change the Water Pump at the same time? Thanks in...

Yes indeed, the water pump is driven by the timing belt on this vehicle and you would be well advised to change it and the idlers while you are at it. You can get timing belt kits for this vehicle that include the belt, 2 idlers and the water pump. In the UK, the kit is priced at about £70
