It's not your starter or battery it sounds like a fuel problem to me, check and see if your fuel pump is working alright or not it seems to me that your engine is vapor locking every time your get your engine up to temp. and turn it off it's vapor locking your fuel system have your fuel pump and complete system checked out.

You tried a lot of things, Give this a try.

Make sure the positive cable, makes a good connection at the battery and at the starter. Make sure the negative cable makes a good ground connection at the battery and (preferably) at the engine.

  • Check the battery the simple way, like this:
Turn on the headlights, then try to start the car.If the headlights do not dim or go out, then the battery is likely ok.
  • Check the starter and solenoid:
If the wiring looks ok, then look at the starter solenoid for a good connection, and proper voltage at the starter(10 volts minimum while cranking).
If the starter spins and no crank, the problem is most likely the Solenoid's bendix gear is stuck.
Have someone hit (not too hard) the starter while you try to start the car. This usually works by dislodging a stuck bendix gear.
  • Make a simple test of the alternator:
If you can, somehow get the engine running, measure the voltage at the battery. It should be at least 13.6 volts to properly charge the battery.

Sounds like the bendix gear on the starter is hanging up on the flywheel for some reason make sure the starter is installed correctly and cables are good if cable dont supply correct amperage to it the bendix wont fully extend and the gear wont mate properly in the flywheel

2004 impala wont start just clicks and gauges flicker after starter replacment

Hi Christine, I think you should recheck the battery connections at the starter end and the battery end. If they are ok, try with a new battery and maybe fit back the old starter motor as it may have been the battery all along. Regards John

My 2002 impala wont start i just hear a click when i turn key

You have a dead Battery, have the Battery tested, it should have a static charge of at least 11-12 volts, if lower than that, replace the Battery.

Our 2000 Impala sometimes will not start.

Sounds like a "dead spot" in the starter solenoid. Not sure if you will have to replace the entire starter assembly or just the solenoid. Some GM starters have a solenoid that can't be replaced seperatly.
A trip or call to your local parts store (O'Reilly's / Advance Auto) might be helpful.. explain your problem and see what they think.

if the clicking is repeated with out you releasing the key then the battry is in need of charging or replacing, if its a one click each time then the starter motor is faulty.
