Question about 2006 Ford Ranger

I have a 2006 four cylinder Ford Ranger. The truck runs fine most of the time. Every once in awhile, when I come to a stop light, the engine slowly comes to a stop, as though starved for gas, and will not start again. The first time this happened was two months ago. I took it to a shop, and they couldn't find anything. The second time was yesterday, when I had just gotten back from a 1,500 mile trip. The third time was today. The first two times, after an hour or two rest, it started. This time, it doesn't want to start even after the rest. It seems to be getting gas, because it will catch from time to time while trying to start it, and the RPMs jump up to 1,000 or so, but it won't stay running. I've tried not giving it gas, I've tried holding the accelerator to the floor, nothing. Has anyone else had this experience?

Fuel Filter-clogged. Fuel Pump binding mechaniclly or low volume. Are you sure you have no stored codes and do you really know from a very technical description what diagnostic work was done by your guy? Is it under warranty, I assume not ,if you r Dealer wasn't involved

Testimonial: "Thanks. No codes the first time. Maybe I should take it to the dealer this time. Out of warranty, unfortunately... Thanks for the great tip."

Misfire ford ranger 2006

Most misfires are ignition related so it is worth checking spark plugs and spark power and quality. A bad misfire is likely to switch on a warning light and in that case a scanner could provide more information. A constant misfire on a single or a related pair of cylinders could be caused by injection or compression problems or perhaps even an air leak.

I once had an engine that misfired because one cam lobe had disappeared, completely worn away.

In most cases there is no shortcut and only a systematic approach to diagnosis will lead to success.

96 Ranger, "popping" sounds from Engine compartment

if it has been awhile since the belt was changed it may be a good idea to change it and get a timing light and check the timing also make sure the beads in the catalytic converter is not releasing and starting to plug up the exhaust system
