My bod says a couple of different things all at once, the first is that the coolant level reports insufficient qty but the rad is full and mixed 50/50 like it should be.
the second is the the engine reports to be running lean and #1 cyl is mis firing

1990 Lincoln Towncar, 5.0 L V-8 has a no start hot problem. It starts good when cold but will only crank continually with no engine start when hot. It does have an ignition spark from the coil to the...

Try replacing the water temperature sensors. Sometimes there are 2 with one working the dash and the other working the engine. You are probably running too lean. The "cold start sequence" kicks in at a cold to warm temperature. If the sensor is stuck on hot it will be too lean to start.

You might try a new thermostat that may be more responsive than your old one. Check air filter for condition.

check or replace temperature sender. If sender is indicating a hot engine it will lean mix and may be too lean to start and not run right when cold.

What controls the a/c stepup in 2004 vitara j20 engine

happy new year.
hot or cold engine? both key factors.
the a/c puts a large load on the engine
the engine J20 is powerful, and has idle controls
so now those controls are dead.
1: if engine has full power then its not due to lean bogging at idel
2: idle controls failing, ISC failure or failsafe mode.(pcm)
3; Seizing a/c compressor.

idle controls are suspended in fails safe mode
idle controls will fail of engine is real lean.
idle controls will fail if the engine is overloaded.

we check the a/c by hand to see if its ok.
we scan the PCm see if DTC ERRORS. SEE RPM AT 800
See coolant at 180F
we then make sure the engine at hot idle is at closed loop status
if not, we fix that first.

idle is last to fix, all else must be correct or idle will or can fail.
eg: running real lean, running rich and misfiring. etc.

AND lots more..... ask

2003 ford escape over heats while idleing

There are a few things which should be happening to prevent both problems.

There is a fan relay which senses heat and then turns on the electric cooling fan. Around this time, an idle control should cause the RPM to increase to help circulate the water in the engine.

Sounds like the engine is getting too lean to run because these automatic controls are not working. The hot engine is running lean.

1995 isuzu rodeo

Yes, it could. Because the engine is running lean with that extra air being sucked in. Lean running does make the engine run hotter. Hopefully that is all it is. Replace the intake manifold gasket and see if it still runs hot. Good idea to change the coolant and thermostat and flush the radiator while you are at it.

Muffler gets to hot

Is engine running OK? If so and the muffler is an economy muffler, take it back to where you had it installed and see what they will do for you. If the engine IS NOT running right , it may be running to lean and tat causes an overly hot exhaust system. You may need to have the engine diagnosed for performance issues.

1996 T100 Toyota, will not start when hot, will start when cold but the engine light is on. Code says LB running lean? Allready replaced converter and sensors.

First thing that needs to be checked is the abscence of spark when it will not start. Running lean could be a vacuum leak on the left side or perhaps a clogged injector. How does it run when it does start?

Code 171 and 174 on a 97 mercury grand marquis

I've owned one of these. you can try to clean the MAF with brake cleaner. but if that doesn't work you'll have to replace it. the car can't tell how muich air is entering the engine to properly meter the fuel. so what you get is a lean misfire. fix it soon. running the engine lean means it's running hot internal temperatures which can damage expensive things ie. catylitic converters.
