Please contact a local salvage yard, they have cross reference software that will give you exact information on cross over engines. Dodge truck engines will also fit, but what models not sure.

My engine is blowed up in my 98 jeep cherokee and i have ben told that only a 98 engine will work is this true or will any other year work

If it is a 4.0 the 97-00 should work. The bottom end from other years would work but you would need to change some stuff from yours to make it work

What years 3.1 engine will fit in 1998 pontiac grand prix

Unfortunately it's a (relatively) one year only engine (without major component changes). However, these will fit without those changes:

'97, '98, '99 Buick Century,

'98, '99 Lumina (car),

'98, '99 Grand Prix,

'99, Monte Carlo.

This is assuming that you have an (8th digit) "M" VIN. Off the top of my head.

If I dont make a mistake, you have two O2 (before / after catalytic converter) both of 4 wire, in the exhaust system.

Review the Jeep ZJ Service Manual
- ZJ-Secc-14-Fuel-System (page 22, fig. 8)
- ZJ-Secc-25-Emission-Control-Systems

Hope helped with this (remember rated this help) Good luck.

check your wiring for dirty connections or broken wires, you may have wires that are rubbed through or connectors that are not making full contact. you will need an ohm meter and check wires for continuity. a wiring diagram will be needed.

Jeep wrangler 98 mistake a 2500-3000 rpm

You are going to have to check the codes. Then we will know what the engine is asking for.
A code reader can be bought at Canadian Tire for $30 to $40.
