Question about 2000 Dodge Grand Caravan

Same smell of gas.

I too smell gas when the vehicle is hot and has been runing for 30 minutes or so. The MPG's are significantly lower than in the past. I have 153,000 low maintenance miles on the van and I need it to last another 5 years or so.

Thank you for your quick reply. Many of the solutions seem probable, but I have eliminated some. Perhaps it would help to narrow problems down by indicating that there is no visible sign of leakage, it only smells when the engine is hot, and the strongest odor comes from the engine compartment and only on the passengers side of the vehicle. Where is the vacuum fuel canister located and how does one test to determine is the canister is the problem?

This means that either the engine may be overheating. Reduce the fuel pump's supply rate and check the entire fuel piping on the engine which is made of teflon and the points where it is directly in contact with any metal which heats up, thus making the fuel line expand due to the meal expansion and may cause cracks on it to enable fuel leakage. You may have to replace the fuel piping on the engine compartment. Check the fuel filter and clean it. Also check the overflow line which returns the extra fuel back for reuse. Do not forget to check the coolant in the radiator & the water pump, plus the level of engine oil(mobil) in the engine......sodep

Hi

Thanks for using FixYa. Please check if your fuel lines if they are rusted. Check the rubber fuel lines going to injector rail and fuel pressure regulator, they have been known to leak when they age, specially when cold. Also check the fuel lines going to the filter. It could be the fuel pressure regulator.
Plugged, dirty or poorly connected fuel injector; Leaking fuel filter or fuel filter connections; Punctured or damaged fuel tank; Loose or poorly connected fuel pump.
Cars have a vacuum fuel canister that may incorporate a filter of its own. I'm not sure what condition makes this tank take on fuel (its an overflow tank, of sorts). You can get them checked if you don't feel comfortable checking them.

Please do accept the solution if the issue is resolved or else revert for further assistance.

Thanks
Rylee

WHY DO I GET SUCH POOR GAS MILAGE ON MY CAR

A vehicle like that won't give a poor gas milage for nothing. The dealer just don't want o deal with you. I own a 2009 Nissan Versa, which is one of the best gas milage car you can get, but right now is spending way too much gas. In my case the problem is the spark plug and the air filter, and it should be good to go. Have it diagnostic. Good luck.

Drop in gas milage with drop in altitude

I would guess your car was built to the Emission Standards
for your state,altitude etc

Still a big drop in mpg

If you ever moved, you may need your computer software
reflashed for lower elevation

I would guess the MAF Sensor was out of it's range

Check to see if any codes were stored
Need professional scanner

Look at freeze frame data unless you have been back for weeks

check O2 Sensors, add a product called Ametech restore at next oil change, this does wonders for your vehicle, improved my BHP & MPG threefold , also as you say it smells bad (Like rotten eggs?) this will be the catalytic converter, either replace or add a product called cataclean to the fuel & take it for a run, It literally cleans all the **** fro the catalytic converter removing that rotten egg smell

99 pontiac grand prix smells hot after driving 30 minutes

If the temperature gauge looks good (under 3/4) its all good. If not, then there is a problem. If it smells hot inside, like moist and humid you will need to replace the ac filter, that can be located under the hood, close to the water resevoir, you will have to pull the ruber type gasket that is on the edge of the hood/wiper cover.

Loosing fuel too fast whats wrong

this is a rather vague question however if you don't have any kind of leak in your gas tank/fuel lines/fuel system or etc. Government epa/mpg as recorded for your specific vehicle is 17mpg city 27 highway and 21 overall combined. If you are getting much poorer fuel economy I would suggest getting a complete tune up and fuel system treatment for your vehicle. Poor engine performance can significantly increase the fuel consumed. hope this helps

Gas fumes inside and out side the car when it is hot outside

Try having the area that the hose was disconnected from steamed cleaned, or go to a car wash wash and spray the area. It might help, that is if you already haven't done so.
