Question about 2001 Honda Accord

Open Question

I own a 2001 Honda Accord. Saturday I had to open the truck to jump another car and found that the hood isn't latching securely. It latches enough to hold it shut but isn't closing all the way. In order for me to re-open the hood I have to press the release latch but I'm afraid to drive the car in the event the wind catches it and it blows open and I wreck. I'm not very mechanically inclined. Has anyone had this problem and can someone recommend step I can take to remedy the problem. Incidentally, the pull release lever makes a quiet click when I pull it so I think that wire is connected. Thanks for anyone's advice.

There is no emergency latch. The best way to get it open is to remove the cable from the release latch in the footwell, then use a pair of pliers to pull the cable and open the hood. You might even have to strip the cable covering back a little to get to the cable.

The 98-02 accord do have hood latch problem that cause the alarm to go off like what you're having. One thing you can try is disconnecting the hood latch harness only(picture letter D). If everything turn back normal then you got a bad hood latch. You could replace latch or leave it unplug, it's up to you. Your alarm will work fine with it unplug. hope this helps you.k42282_2.jpg

Car alarm on 98 honda accord keeps going off. any way to disconnect the security system?

check the hood latch wires, they get wet and dirty, clean the hood latch well, usea a degreaser, then use an air hose to get it all clean. the wire for the hood latch is kinda hidden,
(not the cable one thats used to release the hood) then dry it out with a hair dryer or something, i used a heat gun. then sprayed it with wd-40 (WD = water displacment)
when the latch and wires get wet it creates a short and acts like the hood is being opened, then triggers the alarm, could be the trunk one as well. this worked for me !

Just an average joe tat hates being ripped off from the dealerships !!

Hood wire is out from the latch at the hood to open the hood (1997 Honda accord)

If you get down and look upward in the front grille area, you will see the hood latch from its underside. You need to push the operating lever part across toward the cable outer case using a long screwdriver, lever, or something suitable. You may need to have another person bear down on the hood as you attempt this. This is all a mechanic would do.

My Honda Accord Special Edition's car alarm is going off by itself about every 10 minutes. What would be causing this? I have currently disconnected the battery terminal in order for it to stop.

After sourcing a Honda Forum, I noticed that other people were experiencing the same problem I was having. One suggested that it could be trouble with the hood latch sticking which also has two cables running from it; one cable that is somehow involved with the security feature of the car (gummed up with dirt/grease/grime). I used WD40 on the latch and cable area and opened/closed the hood a few times. My security lights in center console and driver door are functioning properly now and no bells/whistles going off and random. I've got my fingers crossed.

Front hood wont lock closed. i drop the hood and it doesnt catch. it catches on loosely but not the secure closure

you have a problem with your primary hood latch, your secondary latch keeps it from flying up into your windshield. inspect the pri. latch, it may have stuck and won't close. a thorough soaking with a good penetrating oil usually frees it up. if not you may have to replace the latch.

Cable is sticking, look at hood latch and push down on the thin cable. It will allow the hood to shut. my 96 Accord does the same thing.

1986 Honda Accord: The hood will NOT open!!!

Use a flashlight and look in & up through the grille & you may be able to see where the sleeve of the cable runs to the latch. When you look at it, should allow you to figure out which way to pull or pry to get it to release hopefully.
