Question about 2000 Chevrolet Blazer

1999 Blazer does not run after head gasket job

We have a 1999 Chevrolet Blazer that I installed new head and intake gaskets on. It will not start unless I hold the pedal to the floor and when it does run it sounds like the timing is severely retarded. The check engine light is on but I cannot link up to the computer for some reason(I can link up fine to our other '99 GMC). I took out the new plugs and they are black like running rich and when I try to start it sounds like it is majorly sucking in too much air thru the throttle body. I have tried another computer with the same service number, ignition module, installed new plenum gaskets, set the number one cylinder to TDC and pointed the rotor to the 6 on the distributor housing. I am out of ideas. Please help if you can. Thank you.

I need my heads fixed how much?

First make sure it is heads and not just an intake gasket. Chevrolet engines are notorious for blowing intake gaskets and being mistaken for heads. If it is heads it will cost around $1000 or more depending on if they are cracked. If the heads are cracked it will be just as cheap to install a new or used engine.

Where is the intake gasket located on a 1999 lumina and how do you change it

there are 2 intake gaskets, on on each head where the intake sits, if you are unsure about the job i would get help, there is no room for error.
when you get new gaskets get the metal ones, the plastic ones don't last.

2000 blazer 4.3 what would cause coolant to be in engine oil

A blown head gasket. This is common if you ever let the engine overheat. Aluminum heads will warp if allowed to overheat even for a few minutes. If you check the coolant there may also be oil in the coolant. Remove your spark plugs and see if they are all the same color on the tip of the plugs that are inside the engine. Usually one or two of the plugs will foul with oil or coolant and not fire like the other plugs. You could also have a cracked head or engine block. It is a complex job for the home mechanic to remove and replace the head gaskets. If you do, take the heads to a shop that will test for cracks and rebuild the head before you replace the head gaskets and intake and exhaust gaskets. This is a complex job for the average home mechanic.

Grand prix has a 3.1 6cyl. and 166000 mile, it blow white smoke

Sorry to inform you of the bad news but the white smoke is engine coolant burning off and the rough running condition is also associated with coolant leaking into the combustion chambers. This will be a head gasket repair, basically a head job where you will need to machine the heads down and install new gaskets from the heads up.Get back to me if you have any more questions, thanks and I hope I could help!!!

No you don't need to change the head gaskets, unless you suspect that you have a blown or leaking head gasket.

My blazer started this morning but was leaking antifreeze on the ground. I don't think its the water pump. could it be the intake manafold gasket? it seems to be leaking at the front of the intake.

It would either be the intake gasket, thermostat housing gasket, upper hose at the thermostat housing,or the heater hose that enters the intake.

1999 S10 blazer 4.3. need to replace lower intake gaskets. went and bought the kit and the kit has upper and lower intake gaskets with it. do i need to replace them all?? the kit also came with gasket...

If your going to replace the lower intake and the set came with the upper why not replace it, your removing it any way.the silicone you need to used it at the 4 corners where the heads meet the engine block or you will have leaks.

I discovered water in my oil this morning on my 1999 blazer 4.3 v6 could this be the intake gasket?

It could be an intake manifold gasket causeing could also be a head gasket and/or cracked cylinder head. You can pressure test the cooling system to check the intake gasket, and compression test the cylinders for head problems.. If you have had an overheating problem in the past the cylinder heads and gaskets would mostly likely be the problem....Removing the spark plugs will give you an indication on where the water is entering...the plug will be discolored.
Good luck..i hope this helps..please rate me a fixya.

1999 chevy lumina has water in the oil

This is typical of a bad head gasket. The gasket is shot, allowing the coolant to mix in w/ the oil.

Coolent in oil

If you have coolant in your oil there is 99% chance it is your intake gaskets. It is about a 6 hour job. You will need mechanical ability. This job involves removing every thing on top of the motor, including the distributor and AC pump. You will also need to remove the whole bracket assembly off the drivers side of the motor that the AC pump bolts to in order to remove the intake. Do not out off getting it fixed because the coolant will destroy the bearings in the motor. Also use the new felpro metal gaskets.
