Scanning tells a lot. But if your not getting an engine light. Check vacuum lines first. But if you turn the key on and don't see the light. it blew or someone took it out. Then yes, start with having the codes read.

Carburator why is choke sticking?

Mine use to get dirty and the shafts would build up gunk and get too stiff for the choke spring to move the butterfly valves closed. I would suggest getting carb cleaner and soak the valve shafts and move them back and forth. Start the engine and let it warm up. Shut off engine and spray valves. Now that it is warm, any gas pedel press should open the valves back up and be free to move.. If the valves stays closed, check and see if the rod from the side of the valve shaft is still in place down to the trottle input shaft. Movement of these valves is very light to the touch when the shafts are clean. There is a ratchet mechanism that should hold and move the valve depending on the temperature of the coil. Hope this helps.

I have a mazda protege 2003 and my car stinks like rotten eggs when i put on the gas and on top of that, my engine light is blinking and my car shakes when i stop at a red light!

i have a 2003 mazda protege. this is the third time my check engine light has come on. the first time the car started to shake when i stopped at a light and the check engine light came on. i had a readout done and it said misfire. i took it to a garage and they changed my spark plugs and wires. 2 weeks later it came on again and my car started to shake whenever i stopped. readout said misfire. they fixed the coils. it has been 2 weeks since then and my car started shaking again whenever i stop and the light came on. what could possibly be wrong with it?

Most probably the vac is leaked. Spray some carb cleaner at the intake (while the engine is running) and see if the sound changes after addinh the carb cleaner. If it still misfires add some more carb cleaner to clean the nozzles of the MPFI system. it should help.......sodeep

I have a 1988 GMC Sierra 1500 thast wont stay running

Use a gage and check proper fuel pressure. With tbi fuel injection, the fuel pressure is 9--13 psi. I have seen fuel injector spray pattern that looked good to me, but, the fuel pressure was half of what it should have been. 5 psi may show a good spray pattern, but, it won't start and run a v8. In my opinion.
Any applicable trouble codes? Your obd1, you should be able to check some codes yourself, if there are any.

Wont stay running

You may have a defective idle speed control valve. Clean it first.

Here is the most common cause of surges and stalls, it is the idle speed control air-bypass valve and throttle valve, they get full of gunk over the miles and cause idle issues (stalls) like yours, Get a can of intake cleaner from any local parts store, not carb spray, intake cleaner, it is made by a company called CRC, remove the air intake hose to the engine, hold the idle high so the engine won't stall, then spray the can of cleaner into the intake while keeping the engine running, use at least 1/2 the can, shut down the engine and disconnect the battery for 5 minutes, then restart and complete a number of mixed driving cycles, town, freeway, stop and go etc., after a few days the problem will go away as the system will relearn to the clean intake.

Check the EGR valve. Replacing the EGR valve fixed my error code for misfiring. I also had to remove the battery cable for 5 minutes to turn off the check engine light.
