That is only a precaution that is widely overlooked. You can replace the filter as is, but there might be a squirt of fuel. If you must know, the pressure port is on top of the engine on the fuel rail. There is a cap on it and if you use a small screwdriver and a rag over top, then push down gently on the valve inside that looks like a valve stem, the fuel should come out relieving the pressure.

SOURCE: how to relieve the pressure on the fuel system in

look for the fuel rail, it should be the chrome pipe that runs between all of the injectors, there should be a plastic cap that you can unscrew and under it should be the pressure check port, it looks like a regular tire valve, with the ignition key OFF push the valve in and the fuel pressure will be released, fuel will also be released so be sure you have a rag handy, and don't look into the valve when you push it

Honda Civic Coupe. Year 2000 1.6. How can I depressurize the fuel system easily to change the fuel filter situated in the engine compartment.

Hi,

IMPORTANT: Do not skip the fuel system pressure release step. Injury and other damage can result!
Safety Step! Relieving Fuel System Pressure
· allow engine to cool
· relieve fuel system pressure
· put on your eye protection
Before you begin the job of replacing your fuel filter, you must relieve the pressure in your fuel system. A fuel injection system operates under very high pressure. If you don't release this pressure before you start unscrewing fuel lines the result can be explosive. Do this before you attempt to change the fuel filter.
To release the pressure in your fuel lines (and fuel filter) you'll need to locate the fuel pump fuse in the fuse box. If you don't have a fuel pump fuse, find the relay that operates the fuel pump. Once you've found the fuel pump fuse or relay, start the car. With the engine running, pull the fuse or relay out. If you pulled the right one, the engine will quickly die. Since it's using all of the pressurized fuel in the system, the fuel lines won't be pressurized when you crack the fittings on your fuel filter.
Now that you've relieved the fuel pressure you can remove the old fuel filter.
If you didn't do this yet, you must go to the previous step and do it. Very dangerous!

Best regards.

How do I change the fuel filter

Fuel Filter REPLACEMENT It is recommended that the fuel filter be replaced periodically. The filter is of one-piece construction and cannot be cleaned, so it must be replaced. Carbureted Engines Fig. 1: View of the fuel filter used on carbureted engines 85551036.gif
  1. Remove the air cleaner.
  2. Loosen and remove the fuel tube from the filter.
  3. Unscrew the filter from the carburetor.
  4. Apply Loctite® or equivalent to the external threads of the new filter and screw the filter into the carburetor.
  5. Hand-start the tube nut into the fuel filter. While holding the filter with a wrench to prevent it from turning, tighten the fuel line tube nut.
  6. Start the engine and check for fuel leaks.
  7. Replace the air cleaner.

If the filter does need to be replaced, proceed as follows: CAUTION
If the fuel filter is being serviced with the rear of the vehicle higher than the front, or if the tank is pressurized, fuel leakage or siphoning from the tank fuel lines could occur. To prevent this condition, maintain the vehicle front end at or above the level of the rear of vehicle. Also, relieve tank pressure by loosening the fuel fill cap. The cap should be tightened after pressure is relieved.
  1. Shut the engine OFF. Depressurize the fuel system as follows: On the 2.3L EFI engine, a valve is located on the throttle body for this purpose. The valve can be located by removing the air cleaner. On the 2.9L EFI engine use the following steps:
    • Remove the gas cap.
    • Disconnect the vacuum hose from the pressure regulator located on the engine fuel rail.
    • Using a hand vacuum pump, apply approximately 25 in. Hg pressure to the pressure regulator.
Fuel pressure will be released into the fuel tank through the fuel return hose. On most EFI engines the fuel pressure can be relieved as follows. Use special tool T80L-9974-B or equivalent attached to the pressure measuring port on the engine fuel rail. Direct the drain hose to a suitable container and depress the pressure relief button. An alternate method of relieving the fuel system pressure is to disconnect the electrical connector from the inertia switch and crank the engine for about 15–30 seconds until it runs out of fuel and dies.
  2. Raise and support the vehicle safely.
  3. Remove the push connect fittings at both ends of fuel filter. Install new retainer clips in each push connect fitting.
  4. Remove the filter from the bracket by loosening the filter retaining clamp enough to allow the filter to pass through. NOTE: The flow arrow direction should be positioned as installed in the bracket to ensure proper flow of fuel through the replacement filter.
  5. Install the filter in the bracket, ensuring proper direction of flow as noted by arrow. Tighten clamp to 15–25 inch lbs. (1.7–2.8 Nm).
  6. Install the push connect fittings at both ends of the filter.
  7. Lower the vehicle.
  8. Start the engine and check for leaks. Clean all dirt and/or grease from the fuel filter fittings. "Quick Connect'' fittings are used on models equipped with a pressurized fuel system. These fittings must be disconnected using the proper procedure or the fittings may be damaged. The fuel filter uses a "hairpin'' clip retainer. Spread the two hairpin clip legs about 1⁄8 in. (3mm) each to disengage it from the fitting, then pull the clip outward. Use finger pressure only; do not use any tools. Push the quick connect fittings onto the filter ends. Ford recommends that the retaining clips be replaced whenever removed. The fuel tubes used on these fuel systems are manufactured in 5⁄16 in. and 3⁄8 in. diameters. Each fuel tube takes a different size hairpin clip, so keep this in mind when purchasing new clips. A click will be heard when the hairpin clip snaps into its proper position. Pull on the lines with moderate pressure to ensure proper connection. Start the engine and check for fuel leaks. If the inertia switch (reset switch) was disconnected to relieve the fuel system pressure, cycle the ignition switch from the OFF to ON position several times to re-charge the fuel system before attempting to start the engine. prev.gif next.gif

How do you change a fuel filter

The fuel filter is located on the left frame rail midpoint near the transmission crossover, relieveing fuel pressure on these can be a bit tough, what i do is put a drain bucket under the filter and crack open the fitting enough so the fuel will begin to come out, just let it drain into the bucket until pressure is gone, remove the filter. The fuel filter is located underneath the vehicle on the driver side, almost under the driver seat. You can't miss it, just follow the gas lines coming from the fuel tank.
The sending unit is mostly plastic bt the pump itself is metal as well as the rods and springs that connect the pump/filter assembly to the top part that sits flush with the top of the tank and where the hose connections are (it's spring loaded to hold the pump against the bottom of the tank). The detailed procedure to remove filter is as follows:-- WARNING: Relieve the fuel system pressure before servicing fuel system components In order to reduce the risk of fire and personal Injury. After relieving the system pressure, a small amount of fuel may be released when servicing the fuel lines or connections. In order to reduce the chance of personal Injury, cover the regulator and the fuel line fittings with a shop towel before disconnecting. This will catch any fuel that may leak out. Place the towel In an approved container when the disconnection Is complete .
Disconnect the negative battery cable in order to avoid possible fuel discharge if an accidental attempt is made to start the engine.
Loosen the fuel filler cap in order to relieve the tank vapor pressure.
Connect the gauge J 34730-1A or the equivalent to the fuel pressure connection.
Wrap a shop towel around the fitting while connecting the gauge in order to avoid spillage.
Install the bleed hose into an approved container and open valve in order to bleed the system pressure. The fuel connections are now safe for servicing.
Drain any fuel remaining in gauge into an approved container.

If you don't have a use of the tool then use a shop rag and put over the valve stem in the pressure rail and use a pencil to put the valve in to relieve the pressure. the shop towels will absorb the fuel.
The pressure is now released as long as you do not turn the key on. There will be a little fuel coming from the lines from the fuel filter.

Your vehicle could have either a canister type filter which in that case you just put a new canister filter on. If you have a filter cartridge then the take the filter cartridge out and lube the o-ring with some oil and install. Turn the filter canister 3/4 of a turn after contacting the gasket.
Thanks. keep updated for any more query.you can rate this solution and show your appreciation.
