These motors use a chain and gears. Yes it could be broken. Disconnect power to the coil. Take distributor cap off see if rotor button is turning while someone cranking engine.

Timing chain is behind the timing chain cover on the front of the motor behind the water pump.

2.9 V6. Shakes quite a bit when running. Could the timing chain/belt have slipped? Stupid question, I know! Even stupider question, if it has slipped, will a timing light show that the timing is off? Or do...

1st you need to establish if you have misfire, by going to auto zone and have them read your computer, from therefrom can decide what need to be done, but I donot believe you have timing issues

87 bronco timing belt diagram

a 1987 Bronco does not have a timing belt. It uses a timing chain and gears on the crankshaft and camshaft. NO adjustment can be made or is needed. The chain will stretch over time and then replacement is the only fix.

Location of timing chain in 1987 ford bronco 11

if you check the carburettor by opening he cap' it ususally display the timing
I am not familiar with the car but \i think you mean this otherwise you mean the chain - belt
yu will need the usual old tools or ascrewdriver with the light to indicate when the right timing is on
this can be done by turnibg the carb also manually
careful as not to lose timing alltogether and not neibg able to start vehicle

Belt, remove the the front plastic cover which covers the Timing Belt to see if the belt is stripped of teeth, same as the old Ford Pinto motor.. remove dist cap and watch rotor rotation, see if it is spinning... Ignition Modules are a major issue with those in that year also... check module also...
