Question about 2002 Chevrolet Blazer

I tested the fuel presure without starting the engine test gauge showed presure as long as pump was running but just as soon as pump stopped all presure was loss. Is this normal? If not what could cause this problem?

It should hold.at least a while...30 minutes.... is the engine running bad?? rich??? if so.... the top of the intake will need to come off, and then you may find the leak. its either the plastic fuel lines or the fuel pressure regulator. After the top is off, just turn the key on and you should see where its leaking from...if its the regulator you may ask a parts store , i know that the HELP! line used to make them, if its the plastic lines leaking, the dealer will have these. I would replace both if either is leaking.

This is not normal the fuel pump has a built in check valve, it is defective, you will need to replace the fuel pump.

Sorry am not sure whether Tacoma engine is petrol or diesel, what age it is or what fuelling system but assuming it is a conventional petrol injection system, the fuel pressure test is just one of four tests carried out when a problem with fuel delivery is suspected and begins with fitting the appropriate adaptors to the fuel line and then fitting a pressure gauge.

It is not just the correct fuel pressure(s) needed for satisfactory engine performance but also sufficient fuel volume.

Before carrying out the tests is is usually necessary to fit a switch in place of the fuel pump relay so the pump can be started with an open line and the engine switched off. The amount of fuel delivered into an appropriate container in a set time is measured and compared with specs.

The next test is the peak pressure test - a momentary test with a closed fuel line to test the mechanical strength of the pump and lines.

The next test is the regulated pressure test with the fuel line again connected to the engine and the enriched pressure recorded and compared with specs and finally the engine is started or vacuum applied to the regulator valve with a hand pump and the lean or normal pressure is recorded.

With some older engines it is possible to easily install a pressure gauge with universal adaptors but as later engines tend to use quick release fittings an number of special adaptors will be needed.

Have you checked base fuel pressure with a gauge ? Have you tested the asd relay ?

Not guessing as to what the problem is , testing for voltage drop problems with a volt meter . posted a video on youtube yesterday . If your still looking for guesses forget it , no one on here could say for sure without testing the circuit an hooking up a scan tool to see if PCM is energizing the relay . I have a 2004 dodge ram 5.7 liter . O have difficulty starting my truck. Some times it starts fine but other rimes I have to pump the gas and wen it starts a small amount of smoke comes out.truck runs...


I have seen two different problems with symptoms like this. 1. A leaking injector. If one of the injectors is leaking a small amount through the pintle on the end of the injector it will bleed the fuel system presure off and dribble fuel into the cylinder, fouling that cylinder. When you try to start it the fuel that has pooled into the manifold will create smoke when it does start. And since the fuel pressure has bleed off to zero PSI in the fuel supply lines it will need time for the fuel pump to recover the system up to normal operating presure. Presure testing (bench test) of the injectors is needed to verify this. 2. A bad fuel pump, relief valve, or bleed-back check valve will bleed the fuel system presure off while it is sitting. To find out if this may be the problem a fuel presure guage set needs to be installed and then run the engine, verify the operating presure is normal, and then shut the engine down and watch the fuel pressure for exessive drop.

The leaking injector is more apt to create the smoke when it fires up, but both can cause this. I would start with check #2 first. Of course there are many other things that can cause symtoms like this but these 2 are the most likely causes.

I have a 1999 ford expedition i have been have trouble starting it for a month now changed the fuel filter reset the fuel pump switch checked the fuses all good. It turns and half the time it starts now...


GO TO AUTO PARTS STORE BUY A FUEL PRESSURE GAUGE THAT CAN CHECK FUEL PRESSURE UP TO 100 PSI. LOCATE YOUR FUEL PRESSURE TEST PORT.LOOK FOR SCHRADER VALVE ON FUEL LINE NEXT TO EGR VALVE.PLACE A RAG NEAR THE SCHRADER VALVE AS YOU INSTALL FUEL PRESSURE GAUGE TO CATCH GAS SPILL AS YOU SCREW IN FUEL PRESSURE GAUGE HOSE FUEL PRESSURE 30 - 45 PSI WITH ENGINE RUNNING. THE ENGINE MUST BE OFF HOOK UP THE FUEL PRESSURE GAUGE.IF YOU HAVE TROUBLE THE FUEL PRESSURE GAUGE WILL HAVE INSTRUCTION HOW TO HOOK UP FUEL PRESURE GAUGE.BE CAREFUL CHECKING FUEL PRESSURE IS DANGEROUS JOB.DONT ALLOW NO MASSIVE FUEL SPRAYING WHEN HOOKING UP FUEL PRESSURE GAUGE YOU WILL GET CAR FIRE.

glow plug relay should be on the front are rear of intake.you have a mechanical low pressure pump on the passenger side low near the front. or a electric low pressure pump on the starter side. your truck should have the low pressure electric pump. to check fuel pressure you disconnect the out let line to do a out put test.on the electric low pressure pump.put out let line in a container.crank engine for 20 to 30 sec.you should have a good flow of fuel no dribbles.if dribble replace low pressure electric pump.the mechanical low pressure pump out put test you disconnect fuel line from the fuel filter inlet line.disconnect wire at fuel injection pump electric shut off solenoid .place the fuel line in a container. crank engine for 20 sec. fuel flow looks good.pump is good .if dribbles.replace mechanical low pressure pump.to check glow plug relay you need a .diesel repair ford manual to show you where to put a test light to check the relay.WEAR SAFETY GLASSES WHEN WORKING ON DIESEL ENGINES.DONT DISCONNECT THE INJECTION PUMP LINES WHILE ENGINES IS RUNNING.THE FUEL PRESSURE IS SO HIGH SPRAY IN YOUR EYE CAN CAUSE BLINDNESS.GET IN SKIN OR SORE CAUSE BLOOD POISON. Won't start when cold


get a fuel injection pressure test gauge, it hooks up to the fuel pressure test port on the top of the engine near the injector, in the fuel supply line to the injector, hook up the gauge to the test port valve (looks like a tire valve) and run the engine, verify you have no leak at test port connection to gauge, make a note of the fuel pressure PSI with the engine running, then shut it down, the fuel pressure shuld not drop off more than a 2 PSI, if it does the fuel pump is defective.

poss. is fuel pressure reg. problem. put a guage on the test port and check press. should be above 35psi. see if it stays running when you spray choke cleaner in the pcv valve steadily while starting. if the engine stays running after a few seconds of running on choke cleaner then probably a bad fuel pump relay cause the oil pressure switch will keep the pump on without the relay when it has good oil pressure.
