Because you do not know how long the engine was sitting after being built.......a priming of the oil system never hurts but is only an option.Yes or no is OK.
You can remove the dist if you have one and spin the pump........or remove spark and fuel.......and plugs and crank until oil pressure shows.....oil filter filled etc.

DO NOT flood the engine before it's first start.
We DO NOT want to wash the oil off the cylinder walls.

As soon as you can ......after the engine is running...........antifreeze topped up and engine at proper temp.....get it out on the road and load the engine with VARYING degrees of throttle then let it coast down then load again.
This will seat the rings before the sharp honing is gone from the cylinder walls.
Acceleration and DE acceleration is very important at this time.
Don't go crazy on it just load it and unload it.
Seating the rings PROPERLY now .....will pay off...BIG TIME.

I would prime it. fill the oil filter up as much as you can with oil. now take the distributor out ( mark or remember where the rotor is pointing) now take a large screwdriver or something that you can turn the pump until it gets hard to turn, then keep turning it for another 20 seconds, then you should be primed. you can damage your new engine if it runs without oil for a several seconds. The easy way , but I dont like it, is disconnect the coil or whatever so it wont start and try cranking the motor until the oil light goes out, then rehook everything and crank it up.

What would it cost me to have my 1996 GMC 1500 5.7 vortec rebuilt? Or would a crate motor be cheaper?

most likely be cheaper, because it can be guaranteed that every part is brand new( not checked , worn, but still just within specifications)
secondly there should be a 12 months warranty with a new motor fitted in an accredited service shop

Bought a 2003 jag x type with blown freeze plugs, brand new crate engine was supposed to be delivered with car, scammer did not deliver engine Can freeze plugs be repaired?

Yes they can but the plugs let go for a reason, find out why. A crate engine costs about $9,000 for this car so find it hard to believe you where really given this promise.

Does a 1993 k1500 have a fuse for the injectors?

when engine stalls if you try to restart it check the tachometer. If the tach isn't moving then you proboubly have a bad crank senser which is killing the power to your fuel pump and your coil making you lose fuel and fire.

I have a 99 K1500 suburban. It starts fine and runs fine. I just had a new GM crate motor installed. When you start it, sometimes it will stall, or get a rought idle and stall. Everything works fine when...

new engines always receive a tune up with new parts. The brochure that comes with these engines highly recommends that for the warranty to be intact. Do that first if not done yet
