Steering wheel is locked as are the brakes. Key doesn't seem to be going all the way in either.

SOURCE: Steering wheel locked in place, key will not turn...

Very likely the steering thrust stored in the tires attempting to turn back is forcing excessive tension against the steering lock.

Try (very hard) to turn the steering wheel either direction while turning the key gently.

If that solves it you can avoid this by letting go of the steering after stopping to park, turn off the ignition slowly (engine off, pause, then key out). This will ensure that the steering wheel comes to rest prior to locking the column.

Try to pull the steering wheel really hard to the left and right while trying to swith on the ignition at the same time usually that will free it up and go back to normal Good luck! Ed

SOURCE: key stuck in ignition

Try graphite...you can buy it powdered but it is also what makes up a pencil's 'lead'. You need to squish some in between the key and the lock it's in. Then wiggle the key as much as you can to work the graphite in (not too hard or the key will break!). If the problem is a stuck tumbler the graphite will unstick it.

I think you have little choice but to try and remove the steering/ignition lock barrel - most are removable in position 1.

Unfortunately it would mean removing the column shroud and finding the release hole and poking a thick piece of wire into it. Once removed everything can be realigned and refitted. Sorry can't think of anything simpler.

APPLY BRAKE AND MAKE SURE STEERING WHEEL IS CENTERED. IF IT IS PARKED SO THERE IS PRESSURE ON THE FRONT WHEELS AND HOLDING THE STEERING WHEEL HARD RIGHT OR LEFT IT WILL MAKE THE KEY VERY HARD TO TURN.

2005 malibu I can't get the key to turn in the ignition switch. Is there something electrical that would be keeping the key from turning? Thanks

Not that I am aware of. The steering wheel can be holding the lock, you might try turning the wheel both directions while turning the key.
You might also try a spare key.

This may or may not work but try wiggling your steering wheel back and forth - this may help free the locking pin. Let me know. Thanks.

2005 Kia amanti ignition key wont turn?

You may have a broken ignition tumbler, or is your steering wheel turned all the way to one side? If so, apply pressure on the steering wheel in the same direction that your tires are already turned, at the same time try turning your key forward. Your steering wheel lock may be denying you to turn your key. hope this helps
