Why does it blow EFI fuse when trying to start car?

Sounds like you have a wring problem. With both the pump and injector harnesses disconnected. Plug one and check if fuse blows, then disconnect and try with the other harness. This will help you determine which circuit is causing the fuse to blow. Once you determine the circuit, begin checking the wiring from one end to the other and see it insulation is melted or damaged.

Quickest why to get a wiring diagram, is off a
repair shop data base like Identifix,AllData
or Mitchell

Have them just print the pages you need for
your testing

I would get all of the fuel system, not just the
pump connector

Hi, I see a pink and white wire combination runs your evap system vent valve. I suspect these are the wires you are looking at. The vent valve allows vapor to flow from the tank to the vapor canister, which is probably close by. Failure of the vent wiring does not usually affect engine starting, but might make it difficult to fill the tank. The fuel pump is powered by the gray and black wires. Is the pump coming on when you turn the key to run?

I have replaced the fuel pump twice in my 1993 nissan pickup. but it is doing the same thing with the 2nd fuel pump it did with the firsy. it ran like a top for 2 weeks then starting stalling out finally...

Pull the pump and check to see if the baffle in the fuel tank has come loose. Over time sometimes the baffle in the tank comes free and knocks against the pump causing it to short and damaging the pump itself. Unfortunately if that is the problem you will have to replace the tank. There is no way to remove the baffle or re-attach it.

Make sure you have the right pump first and that it wasn't packaged incorrectly. On some fuel pumps there are updated wiring harnesses for the fuel pump and you might have one of those trucks that needs the new harness put in. It is simple to do and not to expensive.

One of the wires is for the gauge sender. You can check for voltage at the ends of the wires using a test light. There should be voltage there briefly (one second or so) when you first turn on the ignition. You need to get the polarity of the pump wires correct, so you might have to try both ways and see which way it pumps fuel. Was there not an electrical connector on the tank? You could also find a wiring diagram and determine which wire is which by color, and then check the connector pin digram to determine which color wire goes to which pin.

Replaced fuel pump now gas gauge is screwy

The sending unit sends a signal to the engine control module. The engine control module sends a serial message to the fuel gauge.
Check the connection at the fuel tank. If you have a digital multi-meter, check the resistance on the "purple" wire at the fuel tank connector, fuel tank side. The amount of resistance will be determined by the amount of fuel in the fuel tank. Generally it should be between 10 and 255 ohms.
Below is the wiring diagram for your car. Hope it helps, let me know.
Regards.

Fuel pump

Ground connection is in the harness that goes to the pump. If you locate the proper wire, you can re-ground it, or trace it back to where it originates to determine why it is not seeing ground. I generally run extra ground wires to both fenders, block and firewall of any vehicles I own, just to ensure that grounding is not lost.
