Get a hollow metal pipe and put it onto the end of the wrench. This will allow for a better mechanical advantage. I use an old lamp post on my wrenches and things break free easier.

Use WD-40 rust inhibitor spray. Let it soak for a while,repeat a few times and it should break loose.

I have a 1999 buick Lesabre. My brakes are singing when I apply the brakes! I have some spray to spray the pads with but but my paroblem is taking up the brake caliber to get to the pads to spray them...


YOU NEED TO REPLACE BRAKE PADS WHEN BRAKES GET NOISEY. NOT SUPPOSE TO SPRAY ANY THING ON THE BRAKE PADS OR BRAKE ROTORS.YOU NEED TO CLEAN ROTORS USING BRAKE CLEANER.REMOVE THE LUBRICANT OR WHAT EVER YOU SPRAY ON BRAKE PADS AND BRAKE ROTORS.

The parking brake was left off when I laid my w123 up 2 years ago, and now it is siezed. The hub only moves 10mm and no mount of hammering will free it. what do I do next.


I would suggest spraying it down with something like liquid wrench and let that sit for a couple days. If that doesn't work repeat the process a 2nd time. Liquid wrench is available at auto parts stores and in the auto dept of some Walmart stores . I am sure there are other products that will resolve the rust and work as well, but I have had success with this one and know that it works.

How to install front brakes on 89 Crown Vic


loosen lug nuts. jack car up. Take wheel off. take the 2 bolts out of caliber. then remove the caliber from rotor and then remove the brake pads. push back piston with piston pushing tool. insert new brakes into caliber and return the caliber onto the rotor. put the 2 bolts back in and return wheel by tightining in a star order and you are now ready to roll

How do you remove the front disc brakes?


To remove the front disc brakes , you must remove the break caliber assembly . Keep in mind that on some brake calipers a special Torx Drive T40 or T45 must be used to remove the caliber bolts from the spindle assembly . Also , Allen (Hex) bolts are sometimes used . Be sure you have the right tools .
1. Properly block both rear wheels at the front in the back of each wheel.
2. Loosen the lug nuts on both front wheels one turn on each nut.
3.Jack up and support the front of the car on Jack stands with the wheels one to 2in. off the ground.
4. Remove the two bolts on the inside of the caliber the secure it to the spindle .
5.Once the bolts have been removed the caliber should pull straight away from the rotor and spindle assembly .
6.Remove your old brake pads , clean the assembly , properly lubricate the moving parts as necessary , especially the floating sleeve as the assembly is called a floating caliber which means half of the Caliper is bolted to the spindle (inner) but the other half floats (outer).
7.Use a large see clamp centered between the caliper piston and caliper housing to push the piston all the way back into the caliber cylinder by turing (1 turn at a time) the screw until the piston is flush with the caliber face .
8. Install your new brake pads .
9. use the reverse procedure to assemble everything back together. Good luck and be safe....

Slightly loosen tire lug nuts, raise car with jack, remove lug nuts and wheel, remove caliper bolts from brake calipers. Open cap on brake fluid reservoir, place folded towel over top of reservoir and set cap on the paper towel to hold it in place, use a large 9-inch C-clamp to squeez in on front brake pad about 1/8 inch. REmove caliper from rotor. Hang caliper from shock coils with strong bungie strap so there is no pressure on the brake line. Remove bolts from caliper plate and remove caliper plate. Using oversized phillips screwdriver end attached to a 3/8 inch flex wrench, you will carefully put light pressure in a counter-clockwise direction to remove the brass screws and tap the flex wrench at the same time with a large 3-pound hammer driving the screwdriver end into the top of the screw as you put more pressure on the wrench to loosen the screw. This is about the only way to remove brass screws without "damaging them" and they are a dealer item not found in parts store. There should be two screws holding the rotor on. Then spray liquid wrench or penetrating oil into all holes on rotor toward center to help dissolve rust. Wait three minutes then tap rear of rotor lightly with large hammer taking care NOT to hit the thin metal rotor shield. Eventually, this tapping force will loosen the rotor. Use same technique of tapping the flex wrench when applying pressure to wrench to tighten the brass screws when replacing the rotors.

How do you remove the front brake line from the caliber on 81 corvette? I cannot loosen the brake line connection from the caliber. I am trying to replace a bad caliber.


If this is a metal line tube nut on a flare fitting, then make sure you are using a line wrench. If rusted try PB blaster or another good penetrating oil. As a last choice it may require heating the caliper slightly where the line screws in with a small torch or induction heater. Use caution not to burn yourself or catch the car on fire. Most penetrating oils are flammable. Once the line brakes loose gradually work it back and forth until it loosens up.

If it uses a bolt with copper sealing washers then you can use the same procedure. Leave the caliper mounted and use a 6 point socket and ratchet to brake the bolt loose. If this does not work try an impact gun and the appropriate 6 point impact socket. Just remember to be patient.

In the event that these methods fail or if you overheat things with the torch and damage the hose then you can probably replace the brake hose for $20 to $30 but don't forget you gotta get the fitting on the other end of the hose loose without damaging it also. Good luck.

There are two bolts that we are having trouble


Use lots of Wd40 & let sit for 10 mins. minimum. Use an air ratchet if you got one. Otherwise use a ratchet hold palm at bottom near socket & with palm of other hand strike in sharp blows. This action will jar them loose usually.

Not trying to insult you, but... Any chance you left the emergency brake on? Once you loosen the bolts for the caliper guide pins, the caliper should just come right off. - UNLESS the emergency brake is on...

Caliber bolts are stuck


If that is the problem...put your allen wrench or socket on the bolt. Then put a CRECENT wrench on that end of your ratchet....you need leverage....trust me, it will break loose.
