Was it ever low? if so then the float inside the reservoir is most likely stuck down causing it to keep the light on. if not the float switch may be bad.

There should be a wire going to the master cylinder. Check to be sure it is plugged in all the way. Sometimes unplugging it and plugging it back in may solve the problem. If that soesn't fix the problem, you may need a new master cylinder. I don't think the sensor is replaceable otherwise.

The sensor on the master cylinder is replaceable. I replaced mine but the light still stays on. Along with the ABS light. Cant seem to fix the problem so i just unplugged the sensor to the master cylinder and all the lights are off. Brakes still work fine and i have had it unplugged for over a year now.

Brake light and battery light both on?

If these lights are on even when the vehicle is running, then I would check your battery state of charge. Most parts stores can do this for free, and also check to make sure your brake fluid isn't low. Low brake fluid in the master cylinder reservoir will cause the brake light to come on because there is a fluid level sensor in the reservoir. If the fluid is low, it could mean that you either need brakes, and/or you could have a brake fluid leak. I hope this info helps!

2006 Tacoma faulty Brake indicator light

Please note that the hand brake is NOT the only reason that this light will remain on. It is possible that the light is trying to warn you of an hydraulic failure in your brake system.

Check your brake fluid level to make sure the fluid level is not low. If you find that it IS low, you need to investigate to find out WHY it is low. You shoud never have to add fluid to your brake system reservoir. If it is low, there is a reason for it that needs to be repaired.
If the fluid level is not low and you are certain that the hand brake is fully released, then you could have a bad hand brake switch, a defective fluid level sensor, or shorted/damaged wiring.

Break light coming on dash. Goes off and on. Is it safe to drive? What do I check for under the hood? and where?

Hello. Welcome to FixYa. Please allow us to assist you.

We are sorry that you are having issues with your Toyota.

What you are describing, the brake light illuminating on and off may be due to s low brake fluid condition in the brake master cylinder reservoir.

There is a sensor in the master cylinder that monitors the quantity of the brake fluid present. As the brakes wear, the fluid level drops proportionately.

What you can do:
Open the hood, and closely examine the fluid level in the plastic reservoir on the brake master cylinder. It is located at the engine side of the firewall, pretty much in line with your turn signal switch. Look at the side of the cylinder reservoir. There will be a "MAX" line, and a "MIN" line.
The Max is the proper fill level.

If the fluid level is close to the Min line, you probably need some front brake pads replaced.
This indicates a low fluid condition in the reservoir.

We would not suggest 'topping off' the fluid, just to extinguish the light. When you do get your brake pads replaced, the extra fluid will be forced out of the top of the reservoir, and the brake fluid will get on the paint under your hood. Brake fluid will damage your paint.

Suggestion: Get the front brake pads checked, replace them if they are worn.

Thanks for choosing FixYa today.

Indicator light come on when i depress the brake

If it is your brake system light then you should have your brakes checked. Open the hood and find the brake fluid reservoir. Sometime the level can be seen without opening the reservoir. Use a flashlight and shine on the reservoir to see if it is above the minimum mark. If you can't tell, then open the reservoir but clean the the outside or the brake fluid reservoir before opening. If the level is low you wil need to fil with the right type of brake fluid for your car. Go to an auto parts store and tell them the make and model of your car. They will find the appropriate brake fluid for it.

See if that eliminates the indicator light. If it doesn't then it may be a fault with your automatic braking system. A sensor may need replacing.

Red brake light flashing periodically - ??

Often this is because the brake fluid level is low. There is a sensor in the brake fluid reservoir that turns on the dash warning light when it does not sense enough fluid. You can visually check the brake fluid reservoir by looking at the reservoir under the hood. There are marks on the reservoir to show the correct level. If the fluid is low, this means that one of your brake system components is leaking fluid and needs to be replaced or repaired. If the fluid level is ok, possibly there could be air bubbles in the system, and it needs to be bled. If bleeding does not solve the problem, it could mean that the master cylinder is not holding pressure. If the brake pedal is spongy but it becomes firm after a few pumps, usually this means air in the system. If it stays spongy after pumping, and sinks continually when you press it, probably the master cylinder needs to be checked.

What does warning light mean?

Usually means that there is a problem with your braking system. Note that brake fluid is HIGHLY TOXIC so please be careful when handling it. Check the brake fluid level in the engine bay brake fluid reservoir to ensure that its upper level falls between the MIN / MAX marks. If it is below the MIN level in the try topping it up to the MAX mark with the appropriate rating of brake fluid, but as there may be air in the braking system ideally you should arrange for the car to be transported to a garage to have your braking system checked and the brakes bled. There may be a hydraulic fluid leak in your braking system somewhere along its length (park the car on a dry level parking area and look to see if any 'wet' marks appear on the tarmac - this is a distinct possibility if the brake fluid level in the reservoir is lower than the MIN level. Look for unexpected wetness on (a) the inside of the road wheels, or brake cylinders (any wetness found could indicate damaged seals in the brake calipers or cylinders) and (b) along the length of the brake pipes and at any of the junctions of the Master Cylinder.
