Question about 2009 Nissan Altima
Transmission won't let me go past 5 mph. Only 1,000 miles on car, noticed problem when dash light marking P,R,N,D did not light up , the trans didn't shift .
Take it back to the dealer. With only 1000 miles on it they will have to repair it.

Yes PCM (powertrain control module). is the standard name established by the EPA for all engine control computers, on Ford it also controls the trans shifting.

you may have damaged the overdrive gear, a local transmission shop would be your best bet. for good troubleshoting and estimate.

SOURCE: trans not shifting
your transmission has a vacumn modulator on the side it requires vacumn from the engine to shift make sure the vacumn hose from the trans to the engine is plugged on and working, if that is correct then step 2 is the governer which would require a tranny shop to check, but id bet on the vacumn line give it a try! good luck and thankx billy

Try replacing the transmission filter and the trannie fluid. Mine would only go in reverse, and now it drives pretty well. This year has a screw on filter. Hope this helps
