Question about 2000 Lexus RX 300

1 Answer

We have a 2000 Lexus RX 300. We took it in for a check engine light and to change spark plugs and timing belt. When we got it back, the clock will not hold it's memory. It will stay set as long as the engine is on and when the engine is turned off. When we turn the started on again, the clock goes to the alarm at 1:00 and we have to set the clock again. Thank you Tony

Lexus rx 300 does not start

One of a multiple solutions .Gotta have fuel /Gotta have fire.If you have both possoble broken timing belt..With a broken belt sound of engine turning over than be different than normal..Some say like a sewing machine due to no compression. Check fire at a spark plug..If you have fire have someone tap the bottom of the fuel tank with mallet while turning over..Nine times out of ten vehicle will start if fuel pump bad.May start again but not for long...Good Luck

The minimum compression required is 95 psi, below this there is no good combustion, incusive the spark plug gets wet in gasoline
If this condition exists, you should check the piston rings and cylinder surface

How to change the CAM sensor in a RX-300 ? Engine Malfunction light stays on and it has been diagnosed with a faulty CAM sensor which is causing the mis firing of certain cylinders

Possible but not likely. Usually a CAM sensor is uniformly bad on all cylinders when it is bad. I would suspect injectors or spark plug wires more. But the cam sensor is under the timing belt cover, in front.

tony none of those repairs should have affected the clock in any way. sounds like an unlucky coincedence, but you should go back to the place where repairs were performed and ask them to check it for you. a health check should be performed to se if any fault codes are present.

Engine Light

The check engine light has nothing to do with the oil, water etc. it signals that a fault has occurred in the engines electronic controls and it has failed a test of some system that the cars computer runs every few minutes while the engine is running, it can be one of a 100 different systems that made the light come on, take the car to a Kragen Auto parts store or another chain parts store like it and ask them to run a OBD 2 system test (it's free), this will retrieve the trouble code(s), post the code(s) back on this thread and I will explain what it will take to repair.
