When I accelerate forward from a comp stop my car makes a loud grinding/screeching by the front driver side. Once running the noise stops but until it catches speed it makes the sound. What is that?

It could be several things, and I'm going to assume that the vehicle is front wheel drive.

First possibility is the constant velocity joint on the driver's side is worn out.

Second possibility is the wheel bearing on the driver's side.

As to the shaking at 70+mph, you may have an alignment problem, or some issues with the suspension components on that side of the car.

Does the noise get worse when accelerating from a stop, and turning, at the same time?

High pitched whinning sound at cold start, but lessens after driving and outside air temp increases.

I would check the idler pulleys on the belt first. Then maybe the alternator. If your battery is getting a little weak it could be working the alternator hard when you first start it up. I don't know how loud it is though. The alternator wouldn't be real noticeable but some people would hear it.

HAVE 2004 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE,HAS LOW WHINING NOISE FROM LEFT FRONT. CHECKED BRAKES AND ROTORS AND ALL IS OKAY. DRIVES NORMAL AND DOES NOT SEEM TO BE BEARINGS. sTARTS AT ABOUT 20 MPH AND STOPS AT 50 MPH.OR...

the whinning noise is definalty a signiture of the bearing, and they do on occasion start making the noise long before other systoms of a bad bearing appear. There is really nothing else in the suspension that moves in a manner to cause the whinning pitched sound, other than the axel, but there signature has allways been a clicking around turns, so id definatly look cloesr at the bearings......good luck

Sounds like you have a cv joint problem, or the front brake pads are worn down to metal and rubbing against the rotor, also could be the wheel bearing. Better have it checked.

2003 Impala is making a whinning noise after car is started on front of driver side. Noise seems to leave after car has been running for a little while.

You may have a vacum leak. Its hard to say where its coming from without looking at it and listening to it but, the reason why it would stop when it gets hotter is that metal expands when its hot. But start with the cheap stuff. Maybe its just your belt that needs to be changed.

Whirring noise in the front-end of a 2000 Cirrus

it does sound like wheel bearing a cv joint dont make noise and then stop but you can jack the car up and in neutral try to shake the tire from side to side.to see if you have any play then turn the wheel by hand try to feel for roughness in bearing. let me know what you find. Phil.
