  1. Buy or make a suitable new gasket and enough oil to do an oil change, it is a good idea to change the filter too.
  2. Ensure you have the correct tools.
  3. Drain the oil and dispose of the oil responsibly. Undo the fastenings.
  4. Drop the oil pan/sump.
  5. Clean the adjoining surfaces and ensure they are not damaged. Lightly grease the gasket and fit to the oil pan/sump.
  6. Replace the fastenings to the correct torque.
  7. Replace the oil with the correct quantity.

have you smashed the sump ??never seen one leak yet?? sure its not the front or rear end oil seals ??..sounds like you have the sub frame in the way ,evan if you remove this bolt you will not be able to drop the sump without removing or lowering the sub frame assembly as the oil pick up pipe stops you from removing the sump in situe. Its not difficult to drop sub frame just time consuming

The engine does have to be raised. The bolts are not easy to get to until the engine is lifted and the engine mount is removed. I'm doing this job right now and the book time is around 5 hours.

Changing a oil pan for a 95 grand marquis

Just loosen oil plug and drain...take out pan bolts... drop down...make sure alt gasket material is off of both pan and bottom of motor. Lay new gasket on oil pan...possibly use gasket sealer to keep gasket in place...a very thin layer on oil pan then put gasket on. Let dry for a bit then bolt back up...make sure oil plug is back in then refill....cheers!

How do you change a gasket on the oil pan I have a 99 Chevy Cavalier

Drain the oil and remove the screws/bolts that hold the pan into place.

Then use a flat-blade screwdriver to gently prise the pan free.

Clean both mating surfaces of pan and block - remove all traces of the old gasket.

Smear some sealant compound on the oil pan - this will hold the new gasket in place. Put the new gasket onto the oil pan and align the bolt holes. Lift the pan into place and tighten the bolts.

The photo below is a generic image of oil pan with gasket.
