Question about 1999 Honda Prelude

1 Answer

1999 honda prelude manual transmission isn't disengaging all the way when i shift, sometimes locking the shifter in gear or not allowing me to up or down shift. I know my master and slave cylinders need to be replaced, would this cause the problem or is the clutch/flywheel in need of replacement too?

That cylinder is known as the clutch slave cylinder. It should push against the clutch fork every time the clutch pedal is depressed to allow gear changes. If it doesn't, suspect a faulty slave cylinder, or clutch master cylinder.

There is a clutch fork and it's bolted to the transmission bell housing. It's what pushes on the clutch bearing, disengaging the transmission from the engine, which allows you to safely change gears. If it's broken, you will surely have to replace that clutch fork in order for you to do any gear shifting in the future.

Can not get transmission to release park when shifted into any gear. Car feels like it is in gear and would move if park would release.

replace the shift lock solenoid which is located by the shifter cable inside the car. That solenoid operates as a lock and disengages upon pressing on the brake pedal to shift

1999 Honda Accord EX won't shift out of park. It is stuck. I think it's the shift lock solenoid but I'm not sure. How do I get the car out of park. I pushed the brake in but the button on the gear shifter...

If you press the Break pedal and the shift button does not engage, Your Solenoid did not activate to release it out of park. either the: solenoid is out - Bent levers - Solenoid harness disconnected - Break activation wire may be damaged. this piece is easy to replace as it sits on the right side (passanger side) of the shift lever. remove center console cover to access the soleniod which is held on by two 10mm nuts. and a C- clamp

It s stuck in park, and won t go into gear,Is this a secruity issue?

your brake switch sends a signal that it is pressed allowing gear shifter to be removed from park. there is a manual overide for this to allow shifting. located next to shifter on center console (pass side)there should be an access hole if u poke a blunt object strgt down there is a lever that will allow shifter disengagement. hope this helps

My saturn automatic shift will not go into any gear,

Sometimes pens, coins, etc... fall down through the shifter seal and get lodged in the park lock cable not allowing it to release the shifter. When you step on the brake pedal the cable unlocks the shifter allowing it to move (safety thing). Remove the shifter console and inspect for foreign objects in the shift linkage. While inspecting with the key on (not running) keep stepping on the brake pedal to see the action of the cables under the shifter. Then remove object causing the cable not to function. If this turns out not to be the problem, then pop your hood and locate the top of the transmission. Find the shift linkage and see if the jamb is there. I sincerely hope that this suggestion helps you to locate the problem. Best wishes.

Car stops moving in reverse gear

Sounds like the car is just slipping out of gear. Keep your hand on the shifter when you back up next time. See if you can feel the shifter move when the car comes out of gear. If the shifter moves up when it happens keep pressure on the shifter holding it back like you dont want it to move forward. And of course if the shifter moves back when it comes out of gear, put forward pressure on the shifter so it doesnt slip out. This might work for now but but i know i wouldnt want to spen 700 for that ****. Let me know how it goes.
