Question about 2001 Toyota Corolla

I have a 2001 toyota corolla and I want to know if and how to set the timing on the engine since theres no distributor just ignition coils that sit atop of the spark plugs? Please help! respond quickly!! Thank you

Well if the timing belt hasent been removed and nobody has played with it then the timing shouldent have moved so,, remove the plug leads all 4 and put a old plug in 1 make sure its got a good earth and turn over engine ,,if sparks the firing order is 1342
from the timing belt end,, other wise check the feed into the coils for power in,if none check with Toyota

Engine stoped of running; founded second cylinder valves bend, head fixed and also replaced time chain, but still no start

you need to take the heads off of the engine and have them re-built and cleaned ,,you have serious valve issues ...also before you do anything may also have ignition coils or bad distributor and plugs as well as plug wires

My toyota corolla was idline fine then just cut off . no spark in distributor

If your engine cranks normally but will not start and cuts off because it has no spark, or it stalls and won't restart because it has no spark, the problem may be due to any of the following:
A bad pickup inside the distributor a stripped distributor drive gear (common problem with plastic distributor drive gears, broken, loose or corroded wires from the pickup to the ignition module or PCM.
If there is power going from the coil to the dist, but no spark coming out of the dist. the Condenser is bad. Small round thing that has a wire that hooks to the points. If the engine has no spark, check for voltage at the coil positive terminal when the ignition key is on.
If there is voltage, the problem is on the trigger side of the coil (pickup, crank sensor, ignition module or primary wiring circuit).
If there is NO voltage at the coil, the problem is on the supply side (the ignition switch or ignition wiring circuit).
If the coil has voltage, the problem may be a bad high voltage output wire from the coil to the distributor, hairline cracks in the coil output tower, or cracks or carbon tracks inside the distributor cap or on the rotor.You can check this with voltmeter.------------------

I have a 1995 toyota corolla it wont start its not getting any fire to the plugs any help thanks

It is most likely the ignition coil. If it has a distributor with a wire coming out of the center, it has a regular coil, if it doesn't, you will need a coil pack. Make sure the fuse is good. There will be a fuse labeled "ignition" and make sure there is power at the connector. The coil is attached to the wire at the center of the distributor. Good luck.

Car is not getting spark

check your fuses first
check your ignition coil for burn or crack
if not then replace the whole distributor, because the distributor has a life time warranty.
if you buy the igniter and the coil separate it will end up cost you more and you don't have good warranty

My old Toyota Corolla AE110 4-door sedan engine shutdowns at crusing speed, restarts and shutdowns several times. A new in-tank electric fuel pump was fitted; during test drive the same problem reappears...

Bad ignition coil. Borrow a known good distributor to swap with yours, and if the problem goes away you'll know that's what it was. The ignition coil is inside the distributor body and can be easily replaced.

Actual timing would depend on what engine is installed in the 1985 Corolla. There are some versions that uses the 4A-GE, 4A-GEC, 4A-C engines. There are even some Asian versions that used the 4K/B engines.

The correct method would be to use timing light, engine analyzer and some other test equipment, However, below is a quick and dirty procedure. Basically, to adjust the distributor timing, you need to:
1. make sure cylinder 1's piston is at firing position/TDC (top dead center);
2. crankshaft pulley's timing mark is between the markings on the engine with numbers on them;
3. unplug the rubber boot of the high tension wire for #1 cylinder;
4. connect to it a spare known good spark plug and allow to touch any metal surface of the engine;
5. slightly loosen the single locking bolt of the distributor stem;
6. turn ignition key to ON but not start;
7. carefully swing the distributor assembly till there is spark in the exposed spark plug;
8. tighten locking bolt.

You may need to readjust the distributor for highest idling RPM with the engine running by simply turning the entire distributor assy.

The timing mark must coincide with the specified advance for whatever engine is used by the Corolla. 8 degrees would be a fair start.

Extreme care when working with engine running; extremely high voltage at the high tension wires, distributor and ignition coil and the fan/belt has been known to catch loose clothing.
