Engine does crank will not fire had it checked out last time it did this they could not find problem, they said if it does this again they will come hook up computer so see if it shows a code they will come Monday they are great mechanics who I trust, question could it be the PCM at times I would be driving it would all of a sudden feel like a plug misfiring or could it be the pump acting up trying to avoid extra expence seems like a trouble shooting problem am hoping the computer will kick a code seems like no fuel being injected into engine on one test the computer said injection coil problem but it would not say which one any input would be great. When the truck runs smooth as hell until it starts to miss and run rough.

Based on my experience with this truck with the 5.5 L at the Ford dealer this problem is a sticking electric fuel pump, if it was another problem you would have a trouble code, replace the fuel pump, check the connectior to pump as well for burning and replace the fuel filter.

Could possibly be a camshaft sensor or crankshaft sensor. If the vehicle does not register that the vehicle is on number one cylinder it will not crank. This is usually read by the camshaft sensor.

Have you checked the fuel pump relay? I've had to replace the fuel pump in mine a few times now but the relay was one of the problems I had and it was a whole lot cheaper than the fuel pump.

What should the fuel pressure read on a 1998 gmc z71 5.7 vortec

sounds like your fuel pump, should be 50-55psi fuel pressure, if you don't have a gage, you could check the schrader valve on the rail with screw driver, watch out if it's pressurized it could squirt in your eye's if it shoot's out really strong, chances are it's working, but if it just does little squirt or dribble, then check it out electrically, fuse, relay etc:before you drop the tank, or like some people do take box bolts out and lift box back and it's easier to change pump then.good luck and any other questions feel free to ask me

When i turn the key to start the jeep i have to wait about 45 second until the fuel pump kick in then it will start and run just fine.I have replaced the fuel pump, fuel filter.fuel pump relay, cap and rotor...

Check the wiring, it may also be a computer module issue. Check the fuel that comes to the fuel filter for debris. There might dirt accumulated in the fuel tank.

Starts Occasionaly but not all the time

Check the primary and secondary resistance on your coil, also check the resistance of the plug wires and verify the spark plug gap.

1996 silverado 5.7 vortec cranks but wont start. fuel pump, gauges, "idiot" lights, blinkers do not work. flashers and all the rest of lights operate. Just replaced coil and this happens

Had the same problem with my '96 Silverado with 350 Vortec. The truck would only crank. It would start if fuel was poured down the throttle body. Could not hear the fuel pump hum. Fuse was good, but could not hear relay click. Relay was good, Did some electrical wiring trouble shooting. Turned out that one of the connectors that clasp onto one of the pins of the fuel pump relay wasn't making a good connection, too loose. I just stuck a peice of wire into the connector and pushed the relay back in. Relay clicked, Truck Started. It's been more than 4 yrs. since I made that McGuyver fix. Still firing.
