The pump is probably ok from the tank but the injector pump may have been damaged if the filter failed and allowed particulate to enter the pump also the injectors themselves maybe clogged best way to check the pump is with an oscilloscope (lab scope) check the amperage waveform with the lab scope and calculate the rpm , also check the fuel pressure from the pump with an appropriate fuel gauge

After i filled my 2004 hyundai xg350 last nite and parked for half hour then drove hime ,it stalled ,but rstrated right away, but kind of jerked a little bit, when applying gas. after that i drove home...

Hello,
Absolutely, a dirty fuel filter could cause that. You may also check your air filter, a dirty air filter can cause a bad fuel/air mix ratio, which can have similar results to a dirty fuel filter.

I hope this helps you.

Why do I get such poor petrol consumption and what should I expect

depending on driving about 20 mpg

air filter
poor/ dirty/ old spark plugs
bad plug wires
old gasoline
polluted gasoline
dirty fuel filter
dirty injectors
etc
etc
etc

You can also try Lucas Fuel treatment -- it works with cleaning the injectors, but will not take care of the entire list above,. ie it won't clean a dirty fuel filter - that you'd have to replace.

Best Regards
Ck

My truck shuts off and i have to keep the fuel on to keep it running

It could be a dirty fuel filter. If the filter has been changed and it still shuts off, have the fuel pressure tested. Low fuel pressure will give the same symptoms of a dirty fuel filter.

Starting problems

Dirty fuel filter or faulty fuel pressure check valve which is located on your fuel pump sending unit. Try this test, turn the ignition on for 10 seconds (engine not running) then turn it off for 5 seconds and turn it on again then try to start the engine after 10 seconds. This will re-pressurize the fuel lines to start the engine, the fuel injectors need 62-65PSI to have them start the engine. Anything less then that and you'll have starting problem.
If it start's right up, then your ether have a fuel pressure check valve gone bad or a fuel leak at your fuel pressure regulator which is also common, but if your engine is still running 100% then i'll lean towards check valve or dirty fuel filter.

Start with the simple and replace the fuel filter, a dirty fuel filter will cause fuel restriction that may just be enough to the fuel pressure below 62PSI upon cold starts and a dirty fuel filter will cause the fuel pump to fail early in it's life.
Thank you for using Fixya and goos luck.
